Have you seen that Student Room have a specific forum for disabled students applying to uni?

I suggested maths and linguistics to dd1 but think it's going to be a language and linguistics.

FantasyAndHope · 06/05/2017 17:21

Dd appears to be on the mend. Hospital appointment Thursday for check up changed antibiotics as suspected ear infection. Friday ear infection confirmed terrible appointment with gp I suggested PCOS and other issues and he told her to come off the pill and told her period pain was 'bearable' even after I told her she passes out etc... he was so rude. Wouldn't give a referral to dermatology even though the hospital has said one needs to happen. She's still 50/50 she's back to school tomorrow as she can't afford to miss anymore school but home Wednesday as we have doctors and hospital apps Thursday and Friday.
Schools attitude has being disgusting but house staff have being brilliant

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/05/2017 17:39

OYBK thanks I will have a look at that.

Fantasy sorry about your dd's continuing issues and horrible GP appointment. DD has PCOS though her issue was no periods rather than painful ones.

FantasyAndHope · 06/05/2017 18:10

No
Their pretty irregular and heavy but dd is displaying other signs of PCOS as well.
Also looks like the abscess is filling back up

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/05/2017 18:53

Oh no. Hope you can get it sorted quickly.

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/05/2017 19:13

Fantasy your poor DD, she seems to have been having a really hard time health wise recently. I have pcos and wasn't diagnosed till I was almost 30 because doctors wrote off my symptoms as "stress". Luckily my symptoms werent painful like your dd's. I hope you get a more sympathetic gp soon and get it sorted out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2017 20:44

Can she see a different gp re her periods Fantasy? so many are crap, especially when it comes to young girls and their periods.

My dd has just had a 16 day period 😱. She went to see the gp who was fecking useless. Prescribed her the pill which she really doesn't want to take and that was it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2017 23:41

I know periods can be a bit bonkers at this age, but it's wrong I think that they are just dismissed. It can lead to years or even decades of women thinking that it's just how it's supposed to be when it's not.

I watched a video on fb recently about endometriosis. So heartbreaking. And one can't help but feel that if men suffered a cure would have been found years ago.

And it was a female gp that dismissed her. It's as if we are conditioned to suffer in silence.

Whoops, wrong forum.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 07/05/2017 13:27

DD was fortunate to get her PCOS diagnosis. She was in GOSH regarding her mobility difficulties and an on the ball junior doctor put her almost non-existent (occasional light spotting) periods and her severe treatment resistant acne together and got the investigations going. GP hadn't made the connection at all. Although to be fair, I hadn't pushed the lack of periods as she had so much else going on.

FantasyAndHope · 07/05/2017 15:21

There is a family history of endometriosis and PCOS which I would like her testing for. I tried to explain the huge cysts which turn into abscesses sometimes has to be linked to her periods. Last gp gave her the pill gp this week said it would make the acne worse 😴😴 she's 18 and has being having period issues since 13 to the point she has had to go to A&E before. The cysts are huge and along her jaw and back. She's back for a check up at he hospital on Thursday for her eye. It looks like it's filling back up. I'm going to see if she can refer to various places as gp is hopeless

NoHaudinMaWheest · 07/05/2017 21:19

Did being on the pill help her acne? Dd's is definitely better since being on it. It hasn't gone but it is much better and she is no longer getting cysts.

FantasyAndHope · 07/05/2017 21:49

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/05/2017 22:03

No exams this year just internal exams. Thankfully
Was her first day back today she's feeling exhausted lots of essays to do and work to catch up on

derekthe1adyhamster · 08/05/2017 15:49

No exams at all for DS. It's a wonderful relaxing time for us this year Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/05/2017 15:55

I've heard lots of friends mutter about gap years shiney. I think most students are taken aback that all of a sudden they seem to be expected to know what they want to do at university. It's all GCSES, AS ( for those doing them) or BTEC then suddenly shoehorned in university argh. I think there should be more prep about the idea right at the beginning of this year.

Actually, the whole system seems a bit crazy. Much better if they could apply to uni with their a level exam results having had the summer after taking them to go to lots of open days and to generally consider what they want to do.

Envy at the no exams. A month of them starting next week.

Tea Brew and cake Cake for all on the thread. I am celebrating DS doing some revision without even the merest suggestion of a hint from me. He also did some instrument practice for the third time this week without any prodding. It's either alien abduction or the motivational effects of the first HE visit.

It's college all this week, four more days next week and then study leave and half term. Where has this year gone?

shiney no worries. I am glad you managed the travel and I hope the hospital visits are helpful.
It does all seem unnecessary stressful re university applications. I applied with old style Scottish highers which I already had so I knew what I could apply for and that I would be offered a place. My final school year doing 6th form studies was much more relaxed.

It is a big relief and why I'm in an urgency to get her seen by the right medicals this term rather than next year
