new thread so we don't get lost. Well done to all our dc whether doing btech (or breach as autocorrect prefers to call it) or a levels. 1/6 of the way through this year. (blimey)

Hope today went well for those with exams.
Good Luck to the geographers tomorrow!

Dd has Maths on Wednesday and English Lit on Friday.

No study leave for year 12s here, although now EPQ is finished she has some free independent study periods at last.

It was my dd who has decided not to go to anymore open days (she's been to a couple at 2 very different universities, plus a subject day at another, and says she's narrowed down her list to 5 already, so no point visiting them all pre-application.
She'll apply to those 5 and then visit any she gets offers from next year.

Iamastonished · 15/05/2017 22:01

DD hasn't even thought about open days yet. She has been so bogged down with homework and revision (and is permanently shattered) that she hasn't had a chance to do more than a cursory glance at some of the courses. She will have to do this over half term.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 15/05/2017 22:07

Different ones depending on exam syllabus & units being studied I assume. DD is doing Japan, Nepal, Thailand & Iceland as some of her unit case studies.

Iamastonished · 15/05/2017 22:11

AQA here as well.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 15/05/2017 22:20

Good luck to your DD for this week too Lobster

Edexcel here for Geog. DD also too tired to look at Uni courses until half term now as homework, drama portfolio submission, drama performance exams, revision & exam papers have been all consuming

Icouldbeknitting · 16/05/2017 06:50

I knew it was someone here Lobster that intended to visit at offer stage but I was too idle to search through the thread to see who it was.

DS has law today. He's less confident about the second module but that's not until Friday so that's alright then (I'm zipping my lip about that because he's had plenty of time but less inclination). Exam leave starts on Friday by which time he'll have had two exams. He then gets a week to not study for the last one, which is a small one because it's mostly examined on coursework.

Trufflethewuffle · 16/05/2017 07:35

Film Studies for DS3 today.

Hope it goes well for everyone today!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/05/2017 08:15

Good luck for the exams today :)

Good luck to all those with exams to day.

starfleet · 16/05/2017 14:08

Good Luck to all your DC's over the next few weeks.

Haven't posted for while but have been keeping up with lurker duties Grin

DS has Maths C1 tomorrow, C2 next week, General Studies and Stats after half term and the rest until June are internal exams. They are only sitting AS exams in the unreformed subjects. He was entered for Chemistry but as he has decided he wants to carry on to full A level they have withdrawn him and he will sit an internal exam in that.

He had a bit of meltdown the other night about the exams and has been pretty stressed with the C2 Maths. He hasn't enjoyed it at all and is more than relieved to be dropping it next year.

This school year seems to have flown by....

lashingsofgingerbeer · 16/05/2017 17:31

starfleet Yr12 is indeed whizzing by! Hope your DS's Maths exam goes well for him (and you!) tomorrow. Geography apparently was a 'nice' paper today. Day off exams tomorrow & then the dreaded final Spanish paper on Thursday, before Geography on Friday.

Good luck everyone else!

offblackeggshell · 16/05/2017 18:20

DD went into school today to work through some "hard maths" with a friend. She texted at one to say she'd come home soon, then didn't turn up till 5. She got caught up in it Halo bless her. I think she's worried about the exam tomorrow, but hope that is just because there are some truly brilliant kids in her class (100% in every test types) and she's comparing herself to them. Fingers crossed for tomorrow everyone else in the same boat!

offblackeggshell · 16/05/2017 18:23

Oh, and the Guardian university league tables were published today. A couple of the courses she's been considering have slipped right out of the reckoning, and a couple she hadn't looked at have come up really high. It is searchable by subject which is ACE

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/05/2017 19:46

Irs been quite interesting to peruse the guardian list.

c1 for dd tomorrow too. She will be fine, but I think her friends stressing is catching. They are all high fliers and worrying about ums.

If you have your eye on any open days keep an eye out for when the bookings open. dd wanted to have a look at Durham on July 1 but already all of the maths talks are booked up.
Then we had a look at the train fare. £150 for me, £100 for her Shock
she changed her mind.

OP posts:
offblackeggshell · 16/05/2017 21:04

Thanks for that heads up - Durham is on her (much too long) list. We're trying to impress on her that we simply can't go to all of them. In some ways the clashing dates around the end of June is good because she has to prioritise.

Icouldbeknitting · 16/05/2017 21:13

Thank you for the league table link. The next time my MIL is bending my ear about the fantastic place my nephew is hoping to go to I shall remember that it is 86th in the league table. It will help me keep up the stream of "oh really"s that gets me through our conversations. All the other grandkids are amazing in every way (according to her but I hear a different tale from their mothers) and I've got the message that the last born (mine) doesn't reach the lofty standards set by his older cousins.

The first exam has been ok except - shock horror - no food or drink allowed in the exam room. Those of us who had read the guidance for candidates he brought home weeks ago knew this already. Those of us who said they had read it had to admit that they hadn't. (I bet his cousins read everything)

Littledrummergirl · 16/05/2017 21:42

Ds1 has c1 tomorrow. One good thing from him being home sick for the last week is that he is much calmer about everything. He says he is prepared and he has been working steadily just in the garden instead of a classroom.
Good luck to them all.

TheDrsDocMartens · 17/05/2017 05:58

C1 for dd1 too. She's fairly relaxed about her maths so far. Done lots of past papers though.

We are going to Durham on 1 July.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/05/2017 07:13

Shame we abandoned that one then DocMartens. Even by driving its around a 6 hour drive though.

Back to cooked breakfasts before an exam. I really didn't fancy scrambled egg and black pudding at 6:30am, but needs must!

I think our dds would get on kitten. Maths for fun and all that Grin

Google reckons about 2 hours for us but I think it's optimistic as it halves our time to the M6 to start with Hmm probably nearer 3 each way. Other one we are doing is Cardiff which will need an overnight.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/05/2017 07:36

Good luck to all the c1 people today. I suppose I should make sure dd has some breakfast, she doesn't normally because that would mean getting up earlier.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/05/2017 08:06

I think they would Doc!
We will go to Bath - I'm definitely gate crashing that one, to see if the hill is as bad as I remember from about a hundred years ago when I rejected it (purely on the grounds of a big hill, too windy and a lot of concrete on campus!), but that's not until September, the June ones are during exams Confused.

She's going to Warwick with college and getting the train to Imperial. Cambridge she did by herself. I don't think she's thought about Cardiff. I'll get her to have a look - she'd be in Doctor Who heaven there. I think UCL might be on a list to visit too.

I don't know how you sort out which unis to look at with maths. It's not a subject that will narrow uni choices. What are the other maths people looking at?

OP posts:
raspberryrippleicecream · 17/05/2017 08:13

DD doesn't have breakfast either, MrsAD. I've resorted to shot packs of nuts and seeds in her bag!

C1 here also. Then History (Tudors) this afternoon. We watched Wolf Hall last night to a running commentary from DD, so I think she's ok on that one.

Uni discussions are being left well alone here at present. DD is set on a course which needs an A level in a subject she's never done and school currently doesn't offer, but still wants to go Sept 18.
