DD has headed off for her first one a little more subdued than she has been. It's so hard not to worry for them!

Iamastonished · 15/05/2017 09:03

What exams does everyone's child have today?

DD has AS psychology.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 15/05/2017 09:25

Spanish and Drama today - she's not looking forward to the Spanish as finding it hard going. Geography & Biology too this week. They've crammed most of them in to this week which means she's finished by early June thank god! Few Uni days booked, but with all the revision to do she's freaking out at thought of looking at uni course structures, so she will look at them after the exams.

Good luck to everyone else DC doing exams too at the moment. Only seems like yesterday it was all the GCSEs to get through!

FantasyAndHope · 15/05/2017 10:14

Good luck to everyone doing exams!
It's dd first full week back at school. She is looking more like herself which is a bonus.

offblackeggshell · 15/05/2017 10:18

That's good news Fantasy

NoHaudinMaWheest · 15/05/2017 10:47

Fantasy glad dd is feeling better.

Good luck to those with exams today. Dd starts on Wednesday. She has a maths school workshop on the C1 paper for most of today. Then a final history class. They don't have study leave until after half term.
We have some glitches in her access arrangements at college so she has to go to the exams office after history. I think it should be easily sortable.

chocolateworshipper · 15/05/2017 11:21

Welcome back lashings

Very pleased to hear that fantasy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/05/2017 11:56

Thanks Chocolate & Kitten. DD just finished second exam, so waiting to hear how today went as she was nervous about Spanish this morning.

Hope your DD is doing ok Fantasy as read up thread what a time she's been having poor thing!

raspberryrippleicecream · 15/05/2017 16:20

DD has Maths and History on Wednesday, then back to back Maths and Eng Lit on Friday.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/05/2017 17:09

Good luck to everyone doing exams this week. Dd is only doing maths exams, and it's one a week for 6 weeks, which is an easy ish timetable. C1 this Wednesday, c2 next Wednesday, then the rest after half term. She's obviously not too stressed with exams as she spent the afternoon with her boyfriend that I thought she'd split up with a couple of weeks ago, have never met till this afternoon when he was here when I got home

Dd's school aren't doing AS s in the linear subjects, but mine is.

Iamastonished · 15/05/2017 17:29

Can anyone explain AS exams to me. Are they externally marked, and why are some schools doing them and not others?

chocolateworshipper · 15/05/2017 17:36

Iam I can only tell you that DD is doing an AS level in a subject that is still "old style" - so her AS counts toward her final A level grade. It is the last year that this subject will have an AS level

Trufflethewuffle · 15/05/2017 17:54

DS2 has C1 maths on Wednesday and English Lit on Friday.

DS3 started today with Economics and Geology.

DS1 dropped two subjects after Year 12 and took up Economics so he also had Economics today.

Good luck to everyone's DC!

TheDrsDocMartens · 15/05/2017 18:04

AS exams are mainly up to the school. Some courses still include them but the majority don't.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 15/05/2017 18:05

Just as well we check dd's access arrangements with college today. She had been moved to a smaller room on the first floor of a building without a lift!

eatingtomuch · 15/05/2017 18:06

AS are externally marked. Some courses are still what they call old style exams and the AS is half the overall A level.
Majority of exams are now linear so schools do not need to enter DC for AS in those subjects. Some schools are and they will have their own reasons why.
Historically AS results were used for uni applications.
My DS school still sitting AS but they have chosen 4 A levels, next year there is the option to drop one. If you drop a subject after AS and not sat the exam you would not have a grade in that subject.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/05/2017 19:23

argh NoHaudin, bloody good thing you did check. Daft sods!

DD's school still does AS exams. DD is doing 4 subjects and dropping one. All of her subjects are linear.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 15/05/2017 20:35

Iam it is confusing now each school decides whether it still does AS exams or drops them. DD taking 4 linear style AS exams & expected to drop one subject next year. All her AS subject exams are externally assessed & standalone qualifications, so won't count towards the final A Level result in Y13.

Apparently Spanish exam was "ok" today & one Drama question wasn't quite to her liking. Now has her head in Geography revision notes for tomorrow!

MsAwesome you just made me chuckle about the boyfriend! DD didn't have that distraction last year, so new territory for me!

Iamastonished · 15/05/2017 20:38

Thank you lashings DD also has geography tomorrow and is writing up the rest of her revision notes right now.

eatingtomuch · 15/05/2017 20:41

My DS has Geography tomorrow.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 15/05/2017 20:43

Iam The geography revision notes seem to be alarmingly ongoing, as do the case studies here, so glad to hear it's the same your end Confused

Iamastonished · 15/05/2017 21:31

Are there different case studies, or is everyone doing the same? DD is doing New York and Mumbai, as well as local ones to us and in North Yorkshire.

eatingtomuch · 15/05/2017 21:53

Iam my DS different. He has one in India not sure about others. He is AQA.
