What time do you usually have your Sunday roast

Just that really!

I usually do mine around 18:00. I wonder if having it at lunch time would be better as then I have time to relax in the afternoon, not getting kids ready for bed etc ready for school the next day!

We cheat and go to a carvery around 1. It's really good and they let you serve the veg yourself. We do occasionally miss one but I may do a mini roast during the week. I'm in NI. It's very popular.

We used to have it after church in a Sunday when I was young but we moved house when I was about 10 and my parents ditched both habits, I was happy to see the dinner go, bit I'm also someone who fully embraces Sunday shopping and going out generally, the Sundays of my childhood were dull, dull.

I don't think most people my age (50s) do it regularly from talking to friends, especially can't remember anyone ever saying they have it at lunchtime but going out for it seems popular from the frequency of posts on local FB asking which pubs do a good one.

Due to the kids sports, we do it in the evening. It is a lovely way to end the weekend but there is quite a lot of clearing up and I’m often waiting for the second dishwasher load to finish so I can go to bed. The weeks when we have cottage pie or something is much more straightforward!
What I have found helps is to get all of the saucepans and things in the dishwasher as we serve up and take a few seconds to put the dishwasher on before we start to eat. Then that cycle is well on its why by the time we finish which then means I can put the second cycle on an hour or so earlier.

If at mams or eating out usually lunch time , if at home about 4/5 but it’s a rare event nowadays as think it’s just a basic meal apart from cooking a joint

We have a roast most Sundays in Autumn/Winter. Less so in the summer.

If we have visitors for a roast then we’d eat at about 2pm and the kids would have soup/toast for dinner later on.

If no visitors, we normally eat at about 5.30/6. Gives more of the day to get (non-roast!) things done before cooking/eating. My kids are older now, so getting them ready for school only really involves me nagging reminding them what they need to pack for the week.

This thread has inspired me and I'm doing roast lamb this evening - we're out tomorrow so won't have time (and will probably have a decent lunch at the cafe) and I do love a good roast. Pigs in blanket, yorkshires and stuffing as standard.

the cook) every member of the family likes it and will eat it, so solves one day of planning! Usually have it around 5pm - no later as I like to be cleared up and in front of the tv early

if we go out for a Sunday roast then it’s always 3pm so we can get a forest walk in first

DH and I love a roast so I do one fairly often if we are at home on Sundays, probably twice a month on average, usually serve up around 6pm. Unless it's a special occasion I don't do loads of accompaniments, it's the meat, gravy and vegetables, generally steamed, so it doesn't create much washing up. And then I have left over meat to use in quick recipes mid-week, which is super helpful. Don't usually do yorkshires or cauliflower cheese.
