Just for fun (and possibly to see if more people agree with DP or me 🤣)

Salt only. Vinegar makes the chips soggy.

SapphiraWise · 11/07/2026 18:30

Mushy peas or none.

Notthebenicecrew · 11/07/2026 18:30

Salt only
Vinegar makes chips soggy

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 11/07/2026 18:30

Salt & pepper, with mayo.
An ice-cold Pinot Grigio would be better than vinegar.

Just to be clear, in a glass, not shaken over the food.

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/07/2026 18:31

Vinegar first so the salt sticks to it. Mayo on the side. And cheese instead of fish.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 11/07/2026 18:32

Extra salt and vinegar, mild curry sauce poured on the chips only.

AlgaeDreams · 11/07/2026 18:33

Vinegar... Then the salt sticks to it.

MrWaldonsLeg · 11/07/2026 18:35

Vinegar first then the salt sticks but I don't put vinegar on the whole fish just the end I am starting at. Same with the chips just the chips I will be eating in the next few mouthfuls. This is why the vinegar does not make my food soggy.

Nevermine · 11/07/2026 18:38

My immediate thought was salt then vinegar. If I had to rationalise it, the salt would absorb the vinegar preventing sogginess. I have no science to back tjis up! And my husband disagrees!

HoraceCope · 11/07/2026 18:40

I'd have to find the vinegar but I know where the salt is

CrowsInMyGarden · 11/07/2026 18:42

I fancy chips now

purplecorkheart · 11/07/2026 18:43

Salt only. Hopefully Tartare sauce is available or gravy on the chips. I am not a fan of vinegar.

Thatcannotberight · 11/07/2026 18:43

Vinegar then a light grinding of salt. Definitely mushy peas, and a crisp fruity Sauvignon blanc in a glass to cut through the gease of the chips.

hexsnidgett · 11/07/2026 18:44

Just for fun what?

Thatcannotberight · 11/07/2026 18:44

Or even grease. 🙄

SideboobToYouToo · 11/07/2026 18:46

Vinegar, because if you add salt first, the vinegar washes it off.
I'd also have mushy peas and a couple of slices of bread and butter.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 11/07/2026 18:48

Vinegar, then salt, then more vinegar. Also needs mushy peas and ketchup.

sittingonabeach · 11/07/2026 18:48

Me - salt - scampi and chips
DH - salt and vinegar - haddock and chips

Ipsevenenabibas · 11/07/2026 18:49

Love salty chips, soggy with vinegar. Throw some gravy on top and you are tasting heaven.

Aparecium · 11/07/2026 18:50

Salt, because I will NOT be adding vinegar.

Tallisker · 11/07/2026 18:50

Salt, mushy peas and mayonnaise

troothfairy · 11/07/2026 18:52

Vinegar, because I will NOT be adding salt!

BlackCatBea · 11/07/2026 18:58

Vinegar first, so the salt sticks to the chips!

RaininSummer · 11/07/2026 19:00

Neither. Just back pepper

Tarkan · 11/07/2026 19:02

Salt then vinegar then more salt. That way the chips at the bottom get some salt and it doesn’t stick to all the vinegar at the top leaving the bottom chips saltless. Worked in a takeaway as a teen and that’s how we always did it.
