Just for fun (and possibly to see if more people agree with DP or me 🤣)

Salt all over but vinegar only on the fish and mushy peas

LightlyRoamingOcelots · 11/07/2026 19:04

Salt only
Vinegar is horrible

A squirt of mayo on the side for dipping but anything liquid on top of the chips ruins them

pizzaHeart · 11/07/2026 19:09

Salt, and no vinegar

frockandcrocs · 11/07/2026 19:31

Scanning the comments, it seems that most (who use BOTH S&V) agree with me- I always do vinegar first so the salt sticks (DP does salt first).
I also do not put either on my fish, just the chips.

How strange that you don't mention salt or vinegar in your post at all.
I suppose it's something to do with the difference between the app and using the browser?

palepeony · 11/07/2026 20:17

Salt and fresh lemon

caringcarer · 11/07/2026 20:25

Salt only. Vinegar makes the chips soggy.

Agreed. I hate vinegar.

Yes, on the app there is a poll!
I didn’t realise it would be different.

Salt first, then vinegar, then a bit more salt!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 11/07/2026 21:34

How have you managed 34 posts without somebody getting sniffy about carbs, fat and salt?

Vinegar first, obviously. And then sea salt. And more vinegar. And more salt. And a wally. And tartare or chilli sauce/oil.

magimedi · 11/07/2026 21:38

Very politely ................. you can all fuck off to the far side.

I live in France now & one of the very few things I miss about GB is fish & chips!

If any one wants to send me some DM me for my address 😀

Borborygmus · 11/07/2026 21:41

Neither.

rememberingthem · 11/07/2026 21:45

Salt and vinegar…loads of it!

DeedlessIndeed · 11/07/2026 21:47

Vinegar and then salt.
A tub of curry sauce for dipping chips only - ABSOLUTELY NO POURING!

Cazziebo · 11/07/2026 22:07

I’m coeliac - a fish supper is a rarely fulfilled dream for me! We did have fish and chips tonight. It was Shetland haddock, freshly landed this morning, in a lemon and caper butter sauce. Served with asparagus, broccoli and air fryer chips. No vinegar- just a dusting of pepper. Oh and roasted tomatoes picked from the garden.

DustyMaiden · 11/07/2026 22:11

Not allowed salt , would love some.

Vinegar... Then the salt sticks to it.

This is the only correct answer

istherereallytimeforallthat · 11/07/2026 22:28

Salt first, so the vinegar then washes it all through the chips evenly. If you put vinegar on first, all the salt just sticks to the wet ones at the top of the pile.

We had fish and chips at the seaside yesterday.😋

Nevermine · 11/07/2026 18:38

My immediate thought was salt then vinegar. If I had to rationalise it, the salt would absorb the vinegar preventing sogginess. I have no science to back tjis up! And my husband disagrees!

Ooh interesting! My thinking is vinegar first so the salt sticks:the vinegar doesn’t wash the salt away…

Losingtheplot2016 · 11/07/2026 22:53

First of all , I’m really excited as I bloody love fish n chips. They smell great and they have salt n vinegar on. And a pot of chip shop curry sauce. When we get home I’m going butter a few pieces of bread (preferably white) and get out the HP Sauce.
Curry sauce over the fish and chips and HP on the side. Hp sauce on bread and butter which is made into a chip butty.

everything eaten YuM

RaraRachael · 11/07/2026 22:59

Salt and vinegar only on mine.
Mushy peas are not a thing where I live thankfully but I do usually have a couple of pickled onions with mine. But they can only be chip shop ones 😅

pompomtiddly · 11/07/2026 23:06

I am in the black country so it’s got to be orange chips with salt added at the chippy and vinegar when I get home. Not keen on Battered fish so it’s a fish cake for me with salt only👌🏻👌🏻

If you are randomly anywhere near Camaret Sur Mer I can recommend a place. Stranger things have happened 😂
