What side dish should I take to a pizza night?

Been invited for pizza and drinks at a friend's who was recently gifted a pizza oven. There will be 10 of us in total, 5 couples, all adults and the hosts have asked if everyone can bring a side along. They're already making garlic dough balls and a dip and dessert and salad and coleslaw have already been claimed by other people. It's very casual and we'll have to option to heat things up if needed.

I'd rather make something than just buy something. No dietary requirements. What would you make?

Potato wedges?

50NotFat · 20/01/2026 10:13

Doritos and dips!

TheCurious0range · 20/01/2026 10:13

Chicken wings? Marinade them yourself

50NotFat · 20/01/2026 10:14

Forget that, didn’t see you wanted to make something yourself! 😂

I would make a big coleslaw.

My recipe:

Half a red cabbage, very finely sliced
1 red onion, very finely sliced
2 large or 4 medium carrots, grated
1 small beetroot, grates
Bunch of fresh chives
100g half-fat Philadelphia
100g half fat mayonnaise.

Start by blending together the philly&mayo. Snip the chives into 1-2mm bits with scissors and stir in, then mix in all the shredded/grated veg.

Mozzarella sticks 😋

KungFuDancing · 20/01/2026 10:14

Chicken wings or a range of homemade dips?

Justmadesourkraut · 20/01/2026 10:15

A second desert?

amprev · 20/01/2026 10:15

Coleslaw and a green salad may have gone but what about another cold salad such as a caprese?

purplecorkheart · 20/01/2026 10:15

Cut up wraps and bake them and make some kinds of dips.

PevenseygirlQQ · 20/01/2026 10:16

Mac and Cheese

SpiceGhoul · 20/01/2026 10:17

@amprev annoyingly they're doing caprese and a dressed green salad or I would have done little caprese cocktail sticks.

When we have a BBQ in the summer we buy jam doughnuts. Pop them on the BBQ (or pizza oven) for 5 minutes and they are tremendous. Make sure you let them cool a bit before tucking in; the jam turns to lava.

Or - smores.

MidnightPatrol · 20/01/2026 10:18

Coleslaw sounds nice.

Some sort of vegetable crudités with dip?

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 20/01/2026 10:19

Small antipasto cocktail stocks instead?

Bbq1 · 20/01/2026 10:19

Chicken wings

CoastalCalm · 20/01/2026 10:21

Nachos

SJM1988 · 20/01/2026 10:21

Potatoe salad or wedges

Seaside3 · 20/01/2026 10:23

Baked camembert. Currently we favourite Yorkshire puddings to dip in. Add some chutney and nuts to the camembert before baking. Sprinkle with salt and drizzle with honey after. Serve.

Or, I'd take something like roasted peppers, white bean and feta dip with crudites.

Or charcuterie.

Or antipasti.

Mumsntfan1 · 20/01/2026 10:32

Carpaccio.

SpiceGhoul · 20/01/2026 10:32

Lots of ideas to think about! Thanks!

Chicken wings are a good shout. I could do a few different flavours and a couple of nice dips too. Potato wedges are also a good idea however I never think they reheat very well. Also love nachos and think I'll definitely make some antipasto skewers.

We'll be arriving around 4pm and are all staying overnight so I think those options would be good to graze on before/after the main event too.

Potato salad and chicken wings , a nice cheese board and nice bread ?

RosesAndHellebores · 20/01/2026 10:39

I know you say you don't want to cook, but good quality olives.

An old fashioned one, but savoury rice stuffed tomatoes.

Mini egg' cheese and mushroom tartlets - make in a tin for fairy cakes. Line it with shortcrust pastry, add finely chopped shallot and mushroom (a tsp in each), pour in whisked egg with a little single cream seasoned with salt and peppe, top with strong grated cheddar.
