What side dish should I take to a pizza night?

Been invited for pizza and drinks at a friend's who was recently gifted a pizza oven. There will be 10 of us in total, 5 couples, all adults and the hosts have asked if everyone can bring a side along. They're already making garlic dough balls and a dip and dessert and salad and coleslaw have already been claimed by other people. It's very casual and we'll have to option to heat things up if needed.

I'd rather make something than just buy something. No dietary requirements. What would you make?

@Aworldofmyown selfishly as much as I know it'd be an ideal option I cannot stand Mac and cheese, I know it's not all about me but I couldn't even cope with the smell making it for others. It's weird as I love cauliflower cheese which is basically the same but with cauliflower vs pasta!

I've decided I'm going to do something like this and then also make a tray of cookies. I'll do a few different flavours of wings and a few different dips.

I will also pop to the butchers for some good sausages and bacon for breakfast and will also be taking a big batch of soup and some bread for the hosts to have once we all leave. (This has been requested as they love my soup).

The deserts on offer at the moment are pistachio cannolis and a basque cheesecake so I don't really think that another dessert is needed as they're both so rich, so the cookies will basically be for the hosts.

@SpiceGhoul not selfish at all. Who wants to cook something they won't eat!

25mini7 · 21/01/2026 11:50

Cheese and pineapple hedgehog

ShowmetheMapletree · 21/01/2026 11:51

Homemade potato salad?

Make your own guacamole and tortilla chips. Make the tortilla chips yourself too if you can be arsed!

Trainup · 21/01/2026 13:57

Orrrr message the group and suggest that as they seem to have a lot of food already why don’t you bring ingredients and make margaritas(or other cocktail).

You seem a great guest! May I suggest Buffalo chicken dip? It's delicious and a bit different. Can make it super spicy too if people like spice.

Vegetables or maybe a bean salad which they can eat tomorrow for lunch if there's too much food

SpiceGhoul · 21/01/2026 23:53

@Kongking12 do you have a have a recipe you'd recommend? I love buffalo wings and buy a bottle of The Sauce Shops buffalo sauce pretty much every week! That was one of the wing options I was going for on my board!

@peacefulpeach I absolutely must make these! I adore penguins (she says sitting in her pingu pj's and socks with her pingu hot water bottle 😅)

Exactly what I was going to say!

CookingFatCat · 22/01/2026 00:15

Could you bring a Camembert to bake in the pizza oven with bread sticks?

A second desert?

Might be too sandy then...😁

I can give you my own 😅

Cook chicken breasts to just about done (don't overcook as they will go back in the oven)

Shred them, and then add then into a big Pyrex dish with lots of cream cheese, ranch (newmans brand) and Frank's buffalo hot sauce mix it all together and bake for around 20 minutes. Add more hot sauce for spice and more ranch for creaminess.

Serve with celery sticks! It's pretty foolproof but look online for temps, quantity etc. It really is delicious 😋

Chocolate Brownies

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2026 08:14

Pre pizza food.

Puff pastry parmesan twists.

A sheet of puff pastry cut into thin strips, brush with egg sprinkle with parmesan. Twist the strips. Put in oven for twenty mins.

They go well with dips. V morish. And deep bloody easy but look like you've made an effort.

You can snack on them til pizza is ready.

OMGitsnotgood · 22/01/2026 10:15

I can see you’ve already decided - that platter looks amazing

Before I saw that, I was going to say that it looks like the food is well covered so maybe following the Italian theme take a bottle of Aperol, a couple of bottles of Prosecco and soda water for Aperol spritz.
Or a bottle of Amaretto and some shop bought or home made Amaretti and biscotti or cantucci.
