I'm so into doing a seventies Christmas this year. Cheese and pineapple hedgehog obviously, prawn cocktails, advocaat. What would be on your seventies Christmas menu?

Melon starter, sherry trifle and a pint of baileys.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/10/2025 12:10

Did Baileys exist in the 70s? I think i only discovered it this century, certainly never had it in the 70s.

Uricon2 · 28/10/2025 13:12

5 AM Unwrap spacehoppers, the hot toy of that year. Express delight and bounce madly down the hall.

5.30 AM younger Dbro leans his spacehopper against the gas fire and it starts to deflate/melt. Watch DDad try to rescue the situation with a puncture repair kit and a bicycle pump and fail.

5.45 AM Follow instructions to 'share' your spacehopper with DBro "because he's only little" with the utmost reluctance and resentment.

6 AM regain permanent control of your spacehopper because DBro, who has the attention span of a fruit fly has lost interest. Sit on said hopper for the rest of the day in case he changes his mind.

Definitely around in the early 80’s. Don’t know about late 70’s. I’ve got a feeling it was around then.

Uricon2 · 28/10/2025 13:59

Wiki says Baileys was first made 1974. I don't remember it before the early 80s, at all.

Remember giving an ex bf a bj with Baileys on it. 😳This was in 1984.

Was definitely not expecting that as we reminisce Christmas pasts 😳😁

Thank you! Makes sense lol.

Why were those American tan tights so coveted? Was it that smooth, polished look for legs 🦵🤣🤣🤣

Mink tights aged 12 in 1974.

Yeah, but all he did was complain about how sticky it was.

Ghosts of Christmas past!

strawgoh · 28/10/2025 18:26

This is the best sentence I have read all day. 😂

Oh I remember them! Well, I remember looking at them longingly in the shops - another thing we didn't get, along with a Soda Stream and a Sindy caravan. I had such a deprived childhood.

My grandad made wooden caravans for my sister and I for our Sindy dolls. Best present ever!

Oh what an amazing present, that's lovely! 😊 I would have been very envious of your caravan., I was desperate for one.

There's actually a Sindy museum and it has photos of all the Sindys by year and accessories etc (it was a very boring Teams meeting...) and I found mine! 1977 Royal Occasion Sindy - very glam, she was.

GellerYeller · 30/10/2025 18:46

@SirChenjins @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie love that Sindy museum- I’ve seen a few Christmas gifts I had on there that I’d forgotten!

I've just spent a very happy half an hour on that Sindy site.

SirChenjins · 30/10/2025 19:34

It's great, isn't it? Took me right back to my 70s childhood

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/10/2025 19:44

When was a young women in the 1980’s l was a childrenswear designer.

There was an advert in the trade paper for a Sindy designer. To redesign all her wardrobe for the late 80’s.

I really really wanted that job! But it was 200 miles away.

I also want a proper box of Black Magic which were great, better than most expensive artisan chocs you can buy now, before they got wrecked (even the orange creams seem like a good option)

These posts are bringing so much back and it seems strange but lovely so many of us have such similar memories.

PS and a proper tin of Quality Street and teeth to cope with the toffee pennies without concern!

yes - definitely need better teeth now

Black Forest gateaux, pineapple and cheese, pickled onions, tinned salmon sandwiches (with vinegar mixed in), babycham, nuts which require a sledgehammer to open and prawn cocktail. Yum 😋
