My auntie used to feed me this all the time after reading whats in it I would never give it to ds but at the deli counter 4 people in front of me bought it!
So who on here gets it?

OP posts:
misdee · 22/05/2008 23:44

in=laws buy it for dd's. i dont.

i used to hae to slice the stuff at safeway on the deli counter, when you put it in the machine to slice it sort of squelshes a bit like corned beef does. its squidey.

brimfull · 22/05/2008 23:46

corned beef mmmmm

misdee · 22/05/2008 23:47

i liked haslet.

dh read me an article about how bad kebabs were the other day, and i ended up drooling and wanting one with loads of chilli sauce

geordieminx · 22/05/2008 23:58

the only person who gets billy bear meat in our house is me.. Although not the stuff from the deli... Dp is called Billy

makingyourmindup · 23/05/2008 00:09

Oh,you just got me thinking about corned beef hash with baked beans ,yum.

LadyOfWaffle · 23/05/2008 00:11

Geordie! Either I am too tired and reading that all wrong or that is rooooodey

Clary · 23/05/2008 01:18

misdee you might not like haslet if you had seen it made.

Whaddya think it's wrapped with then? hmm???

cheesesarnie · 23/05/2008 09:52

whats haslet?

eurgh geordieminx

WilfSell · 23/05/2008 10:04

what's so good about marmite anyway. Tastes nice but full of salt...

cheesesarnie · 23/05/2008 10:07

i love marmite

MrsCarrot · 23/05/2008 10:34

Urrgh, we used to have haslet all the time.

My mother couldn't even eat the fat off sliced ham so if she had known it was animal entrails compressed into meatloaf I think she may have had a turn.

cheesesarnie · 23/05/2008 10:38

eurgh(cheesesarnie may be sick now)

misdee · 23/05/2008 14:33

i know how its made, but its still so naughty and nice

EffiePerine · 23/05/2008 14:36

haslet - yum

only in the lumps, not the pre-sliced supermarket stuff which is vile

can you eat haslet while pg? Have a feeling you can't (grrr)

and yes I know how it is made, we had an Educational Visit to the butchers in primary school so I know all about sausages and eyeballs and faggots and black pudding as well. All very tasty.

Clary · 23/05/2008 14:42

Oh that's OK then.

My sister had a summer job at a butcher factory near us making it - wrapping the finished article in apron fat from a pig's stomach (or something) - nice

Tutter · 23/05/2008 14:43

heck, haslet takes me back

EffiePerine · 23/05/2008 14:44

well dripping IIRC is the fat from around the kidneys but I still eat dumplings

I think if you eat meat you shouldn't be picky about which bits (arse fine, entrails not)

EffiePerine · 23/05/2008 14:44

I am having cravings now thank you very much

am in haslet-free territory (darn sarf)

Nbg · 23/05/2008 14:46

Ok, so who doesnt buy Billy Bear but does buy pre packed cold meats?

SmugColditz · 23/05/2008 14:54

Oh l;ord it doesn't matter.

I did a child safeguarding course last week. 2 children die EACH WEEK in this country from abuse or neglect.

Billy Bear Eaters are generally not amongst them, I suspect, as anyone who cares enough to buy a particular (and expensive) type of sandwich filling obviously cares a great deal.

I am sick, SICK of all this "Omg omg how could y7ou, oh that poor child, oh the eyeballs and arseholes, oh you should do this and that and the other with her, oh put the poor child up for adoption if you can't make her like organically hand reared lentil poo, you wicked wicked woman, though I suppose you're just ignorant omg omg that poor poor baby "

It is FUCKING RIDICULOUS.

Half of you haven't a CLUE what real neglect or real abuse entails, and this is not the place to go onto it, but some of your reactions would be better saved for Eastenders.

Nbg · 23/05/2008 14:56

"organically hand reared lentil poo"

PMSL

And well said Colditz.

cheesesarnie · 23/05/2008 15:40

ooh good post colditz!

noddyholder · 23/05/2008 15:41

haven't read the whole thread and tbh i agree with coditz about this food fascism but what is billy meat?

sweetkitty · 23/05/2008 15:44

I've actually seen it being made needless to say I don't eat it and neither do my children.

StealthPolarBear · 23/05/2008 16:08

my DS throws his organically reared lentil poo on the floor
