i'm cooking paella for DPs special birthday treat tonight. i thought i'd cheat and buy 18p food colouring instead of 2.80 saffron. i put some yellow in and it has gone bright, bright orange.

and i mean like a traffic light.

what can i do?

i've been making out im a better cook than i really am and he's been going on about how he's looking forward to my authentic paella.

have just read this thread from start to finish and would like to nominate it for some kind of Mumsnet award!

absolutely priceless!

and after some of the crap on Mumsnet this week, totally refreshing and hilarious!

Thanks Manky!!

blimey... i feel a complete idiot. you are all winding me up arent you?

cheese souffle looooooks amazing...

No Manky!

I am not winding you up! tis hilarious!

cooking a paella with yellow food colouring for a half spanish person and using a full bottle of food colouring which ends up discolouring his teeth is hilarious!!

and then the thought that you might add green colouring and marmite too is very funny!

I am just glad you are all alive!

i'm a good enthusiastic cook normally.

i did roast a boil in the bag curry once which was pretty grim but usually ok...
