oh my god... please help!

i'm cooking paella for DPs special birthday treat tonight. i thought i'd cheat and buy 18p food colouring instead of 2.80 saffron. i put some yellow in and it has gone bright, bright orange.

and i mean like a traffic light.

what can i do?

i've been making out im a better cook than i really am and he's been going on about how he's looking forward to my authentic paella.

And on a serious note, it's not the reheating rice that can make you ill, it's the time it spends sitting asround after being cooked, all warm, not cooling down quickly enough, that is a danger.

If anyone wants to cook rice in advance to eat later, or to use in something like a rice salad , you need to cool it down really quickly after cooking by placing it in a seive under cold running water and then storing it in the fridge. When you go to reheat it make sure it is really really piping hot all the way through and held at this temp for at least 10 minutes, then eaten straight away.

LOL @ this thread for future reference tumeric is a cheaper alternative to saffron rather than food colouring.

i dont believe it, i've just discovered i have FROZEN the bottle of champagne (well bubbly) i got for him too.

well...

started off ok...

he said, "it looks lovely"

then... "um.. i think it might actually be dangerous to eat something that yellow"

i thought it was more orange but didnt want to argue the point.

so we ate it (i fed him lots of wine beforehand so he wasnt so worried about it)

it was actually ok but the thing is...

it seems to have dyed his false tooth really really yellow (and i dont have the nerve to tell him!)...
