Crumpet topping ideas

xsquared · 23/05/2025 16:21

Bought 9 crumpets on offer only to find that they were further reduced as they were on the BB date.

The rest of the family are also away this weekend, so I have 6 crumpets left to myself!

Apart from butter, and butter and marmite, what other toppings go well with crumpets? I'm after savoury ratherthan sweet, but both ideas welcome!

TIA

Fried or poached egg (with runny yolk)

Dumpy71 · 23/05/2025 16:22

I have beans and fried eggs.

I’ve spent 40 odd years never needing any other topping than butter and marmite.
It’s the best! Never tire of it.

MeatRaffleRita · 23/05/2025 16:23

Real butter and slices of cheddar

I have beans and fried eggs.

Oooh I could be tempted to try that!

Dry fry strawberries, raspberries and blueberry’s with a teaspoon on cinnamon till they wilt - pile on crumpets with a large dollop of good Greek yoghurt

Boiled egg mixed with butter and mayonnaise throw in some ham and that's quite nice on crumpets

annonymousse · 23/05/2025 16:24

Peanut butter and sliced banana

Really nice when the bean juice soaks into the crumpet

DH likes butter and cheddar. I like blackcurrant jam.

Delia did crumpet pizzas in a charity pamphlet I bought for Red Nose day years ago. They're delicious.

Just use the crumpets like mini pizza base for whatever topping you fancy, use a small amount of tomato puree and some dried oregano for the sauce and the cheese melts into the holes.

Cheese and chutney

xsquared · 23/05/2025 16:27

Thanks. That looks like my breakfast, lunch and dinner for tomorrow sorted! 😋

Fwiw they'll be fine toasted for a good few days after their date.

Marmite and cheddar together is lovely

Lotsofthings · 23/05/2025 16:46

I only have crumpets with golden syrup. You could freeze the others, I’m sure they will toast well enough from frozen in the future.

AdaColeman · 23/05/2025 16:49

Thick slice of tomato, some cheese, grill till the cheese is bubbling.
Some ham, wafer thin works well for this, top with cheese, grill till the cheese bubbles, a poor man's version of Croque Monsieur. Serve with mustard.
Peanut butter and black cherry jam.

Beat a egg in a small bowl, add a splash of milk, dunk the crumpet into the bowl and let it soak for a few moments to absorb the egg. Fry the crumpet gently on both sides till golden. Serve with any fry up, but it's very good with bacon.

If you've got a sweet tooth, serve with maple syrup or golden syrup or dust with sugar. Also goes well with grilled pineapple or peaches.

I like butter and honey,

LividRah · 23/05/2025 16:53

They freeze well! No need to eat nine crumpets at once!

Just freeze them and put them straight in the toaster frozen if you need to.

LiveshipParagon · 23/05/2025 16:54

Grated cheddar is so good on a crumpet - toast it under the grill and it's delicious.

OverpricedCupcake · 23/05/2025 16:54

Butter, marmite and blue cheese 🧀, or you're wrong.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 23/05/2025 17:01

They freeze very well and can be put in the toaster direct from the freezer when you do want to eat them.

Stinkbomb · 23/05/2025 17:09

We once made garlic crumpets as we fancied garlic bread but didn’t have any bread!! Really nice accompaniment to our dinner
