Crumpet topping ideas

xsquared · 23/05/2025 16:21

Bought 9 crumpets on offer only to find that they were further reduced as they were on the BB date.

The rest of the family are also away this weekend, so I have 6 crumpets left to myself!

Apart from butter, and butter and marmite, what other toppings go well with crumpets? I'm after savoury ratherthan sweet, but both ideas welcome!

TIA

I kinda put anything on a crumpet that I would put on a baked potato (ish). Never really been one for jam on a crumpet

Beans topped with grated cheese

Crikeyalmighty · 23/05/2025 19:53

@ButtonMoonLoon ooh taramasalata is one of my faves too on crumpets - I think it’s the saltiness

GOODCAT · 23/05/2025 20:04

Without a doubt replace the butter with cheese and spread marmite on top. Anything cheese and marmite is brilliant, but melted cheese and marmite on a crumpet is the best food ever.

EveryonesFavouriteNumber · 23/05/2025 20:16

Scrambled eggs with finely grated Gruyère and loads of black pepper

stample · 23/05/2025 21:09

Honey and feta
butterband ham
pesto and cheddar (so it melts)

I love a very thoroughly toasted crumpet, topped with strong cheddar, then toasted again till practically crispy.
With a bit of Branston pickle on the side.

Also as a kid I used to have raspberry jam and whipped cream on crumpets! Like scones. It melted and made a mess but beautiful! X

Toasted cheddar cheese with crispy bacon on top

Kevinbaconsrealwife · 23/05/2025 21:55

Nutella

SmallChanges3 · 23/05/2025 21:55

I like marmite and cheese on mine.

Bit of hollandaise sauce and poached egg too is nice if you want something more substantial. Might get sick after 6 of those though!

I wonder if you could chop them up and turn them into crumpet croutons 🤔

Scrambled eggs with a good cheddar grated in right near the end and some finely chopped spring onion, plenty of butter on well toasted crumpets then the scrambled egg on top.

Delia did crumpet pizzas in a charity pamphlet I bought for Red Nose day years ago. They're delicious.

Just use the crumpets like mini pizza base for whatever topping you fancy, use a small amount of tomato puree and some dried oregano for the sauce and the cheese melts into the holes.

This they were lovely!

Helpmechooseausername · 23/05/2025 22:01

Oh I love a crumpet! Has to go through the toaster twice though so they're really hot and almost crispy on the outside. Then lots of cold salted butter so some melts in but there's also a layer of cold butter on top and when I bite into it my teeth make marks in the butter. Yummy! OP where do you live? I could happily eat 9 crumpets like that!!

BingoBling · 23/05/2025 22:02

I only like them with sweet topping eg

Jam, Nutella, lemon curd

I thought I was the only one that did this! Has to be more crispy than doughy.

I put my son's through the toaster twice and he asked why it was hard 😂

I have beans and fried eggs.

I am an American. So that I understand, you put beans and fried eggs together on a crumpet?

AdoraBell · 23/05/2025 23:18

Melted cheese, strong cheddar. Also apricot conserve.

amybabysa · 23/05/2025 23:20

Tomato puree and cheese, under the grill. Toast crumpets beforehand.

Franchisingentrepreneur · 23/05/2025 23:23

Peanut butter

Ah now if it's gone hard then it's gone too far, but a doughy crumpet isn't nearly as nice as a slightly crispy one!

Oh and I always leave one in the toaster to keep warm while I'm eating the first one and only butter the second one when I'm ready to eat it so that not all of the butter melts.

Same with toast, which isn't nice when it goes soggy with melted butter!

Franchisingentrepreneur · 23/05/2025 23:25

I could now murder a crumpet, dripping in butter.

Ooh, that's a good tip re leaving in the toaster!

Butter, brie and a grind of black pepper.

Talking of crumpets. Apparently M & S Paris were selling crumpets but the French didn’t like them. When questioned, they were eating them without toasting them first.

Tinseltuttifruitti · 20/06/2025 00:36

Peanut butter, with a touch of honey for a treat. They freeze very well though.

stample · 06/08/2025 20:27

Recently been having peanut butter and Caramel sauce on crumpets. More specifically Comtes De Provence - Salted Butter Caramel Spread!
