Crumpet topping ideas

xsquared · 23/05/2025 16:21

Bought 9 crumpets on offer only to find that they were further reduced as they were on the BB date.

The rest of the family are also away this weekend, so I have 6 crumpets left to myself!

Apart from butter, and butter and marmite, what other toppings go well with crumpets? I'm after savoury ratherthan sweet, but both ideas welcome!

TIA

I've done the sensible thing and put some in the freezer.

We once made garlic crumpets as we fancied garlic bread but didn’t have any bread!! Really nice accompaniment to our dinner

That sounds amazing!

Pesto and grated cheese

I've booked to go to brunch soon and on the menu is carbonara crumpets, they sound amazing. Eggy bread style crumpets with bacon, parmesan and carbonara sauce.

My local cafe does grilled cheese and chilli jam .

ChippingSoda · 23/05/2025 17:22

was going to suggest freezing but see you already have. They defrost fine in the toaster or before if you remember.

We have with butter and cream cheese or peanut butter.

I might add some cherry tomatoes if cream cheese.
also as others have said melted (or not) cheddar is good.

we get through loads of crumpets here as DC love them and they’re cheap

FinallyMovingHouse · 23/05/2025 17:26

Marmalade and strong cheddar.

WonderingWanda · 23/05/2025 17:27

Freeze them, I always put crumpets in the freezer because no one else eats them!

WonderingWanda · 23/05/2025 17:28

Sorry, didn't read your last reply

soddingblimey · 23/05/2025 17:31

Seriously strong cheese spread

Allthesnowallthetime · 23/05/2025 17:31

Butter and avocado

Cheddar and jam

Tuna and cheese (grilled so the cheese melts)

Coconutter24 · 23/05/2025 17:34

I like beans and poached egg or butter and cheese. I also like choc spread with strawberries and blueberries and also jam (but they’re obviously sweet options).
Why not freeze them i stead of having crumpets for the next 3 meals?

countrygirl99 · 23/05/2025 17:36

Just cheese. Strong cheddar. Plenty of it and grill gently so it oozes into the holes.

OneZingyPeachPoster · 23/05/2025 17:37

Poached egg and bacon for savoury. Peanut butter and Nutella for sweet!

menopausalfart · 23/05/2025 17:37

I like ham, cheese, and pickle—also, Marmite.

NeverGoingToMove · 23/05/2025 17:38

Have you got an air fryer? These were so good, it put me off just toasting them!

Cheese and beans
As a replacement for toast in a cooked breakfast

I’ve spent 40 odd years never needing any other topping than butter and marmite.
It’s the best! Never tire of it.

Agree. Yum. It's got everything you need. Melted butter going down the holes and the lovely loveliness of the Marmite.

If I was going to branch out, cheese (ungrilled) and butter. Then the butter goes down the holes and it contrasts with the solid cheese. Maybe a dab of Marmite as well.

One thing perhaps might be an alternative if desperate is butter and then St Agur cheese which is sufficiently.squidgy. No Marmite. Or at least, probably no Marmite.

All the above with toasted Crumpets obvs.

Lisbeth50 · 23/05/2025 17:50

Cheese or cheese and tomato under the grill.

tobee · 23/05/2025 18:06

Buttered with beans and bacon rashers with bacon juice/fat

BovrilonToast · 23/05/2025 19:11

Branston pickle and cheese, grilled.

Skandar · 23/05/2025 19:15

I don't think there's anything that doesn't go on crumpets. Crumpet pizza as per pp are a favourite here, but also Nutella or honey or jam or lemon curd or marmalade. Poached egg, scrambled egg. Lime and chilli chutney with cheese under the grill. I reckon peanut butter with slices of banana would be fab - might try that for breakfast...

ButtonMoonLoon · 23/05/2025 19:16

Cheese and marmite
Taramosalata- this is my favourite!
Cheese and jam
Tuna, mayo and cucumber

titchy · 23/05/2025 19:32

Brie and cranberry is lovely! And I say that having always insisted on butter only. (They freeze well btw.)

WetBandits · 23/05/2025 19:35

Lots of butter.

And if I’m feeling like a complete heathen, Marshmallow Fluff is divine on crumpets.
