Today I've used my air fryer to ...

Following on from the thread about an air fryer changing your life, I was disproportionally annoyed about the number of rather snobbish posters who are clinging on to the idea that we all just use our air fryers for chips and nuggets.
I have no idea why this annoyed me so much - and I have no idea why I feel the need to defend my use of my AF, as a keen cook.
So, it got me thinking about how I use mine, and I thought it would be interesting to show all those who think they are a little bit too common for them what they can be used for.
This week, I have used mine for:

Tuesday: Jacket potatoes for lunch, sausages and black pudding for all-day breakfast
Wednesday: Cooking tuna pasta bake made on the hob
Thursday: Roast pumpkin for Thai pumpkin soup, cook salmon and meatballs for dinner
Today: Apple and blackcurrent baked oats for breakfast.

Anyone want to join in?

Roast peppers, onions, tomatoes; dressed in vinaigrette with sundried tomato paste.
Home made samosas - very thin home made shortcrust with spicy pea, potato and onion filling
Toad in the hole
Enchilada Wraps with chilli bean and tofu filling
Garlic bread with a stale end of loaf, butter, olive oil and defrosted frozen garlic purée
(Always) roast potatoes

I'm trying out some honey soy chicken cubes to put in a wrap for DD before she heads off to college

Hopefully I've hit the temp and timings right

I've got a piece of paper next to the AF to make a note of them so I don't forget each time lol

Then I'll add to notes on phone

LilacLilyBird · 22/11/2024 12:58

We're very much enjoying our warm morning croissants from frozen

LilacLilyBird · 22/11/2024 14:14

The marinade chicken made a mess but it's so easy to clean off which is brilliant. It just slides off with a bit of hot soapy water. Result

Does anyone have the wire racks to create a second 'shelf' inside the drawers? I probably should have bought a couple from the Ninja site when I bought the machine but wasn't sure if I'd need them, but now think they would be useful! Would love to hear if they are worth it?

Do you have a link? Didn't know about these but sound ideal.

YorkshireFelix · 22/11/2024 17:26

@TheRealKatnissEverdeen I saw them on the Ninja site heree* but I'm sure there's unbranded ones on Amazon for cheaper!

LilacLilyBird · 22/11/2024 17:37

@YorkshireFelix

Yes they're on the Ninja website 2 for £24

Today I:

Reheated a Lidl pain aux raisins
Used the synch feature to cook salmon fillets in one drawer and then sweet potatoes in the other

I also had half a jacket potato left over so I cut that into cubes and added to the potatoes for the last 7 minutes it was DELICIOUS

Pretty typical day here. Today for dinner I cooked sausages and fried potatoes for my mum and a vegetarian gratin for me (today’s offering: beetroot and black bean; baked the beetroot in the air fryer first). Plus a pita bread for my lunch.

LilacLilyBird · 23/11/2024 15:12

A delicious quick and simple meal of chicken legs, roasted potatoes (microwaved for 3 mins first as PP) and courgettes

All tossed in a bowl first with salt and oil

180 25 mins 200 last 5 mins

Tossed twice in between - you really do need to turn during cooking first best results I've discovered especially with potatoes

MiddleAgedDread · 23/11/2024 15:40

Sausages, bacon, hash browns and tomatoes for a cooked breakfast this morning.

LawyerMumAsia · 23/11/2024 16:30

Hello thank you for all of these ideas. I don’t cook at all and really want to start cooking for my family using the air fryer. Can I put frozen chicken drumsticks in and if so, how long does it need? What do I season it with? Thank you

LilacLilyBird · 23/11/2024 16:49

I stuck a meat thermometer into my chicken leg at 20 or 25 mins and it wasn't quite a 70 since hence the extra 5 mins on 200

LilacLilyBird · 23/11/2024 16:50

I really need to double check my posts before posting

Sound like gibberish Grin

ChickpeaPie · 23/11/2024 20:28

In one drawer I cooked meatballs and in the other I cooked tomatoes, peppers, courgette, onion and garlic and blitzed it all up to make a pasta sauce. Was delicious and roasted the veg in 20 mins

LilacLilyBird · 24/11/2024 15:31

Croissants
Gammon
Mince pies

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 24/11/2024 15:32

A lamb joint, roast potatoes and carrots going in mine tonight.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/11/2024 15:39

Will be used this evening to cook high end butchers sausages, M&s potato croquettes and ready done yorky puds

I use it 'a lot'

I bought mine on Amazon and they’re perfect.
Cant remember the cost but it was a lot lower than Ninja

ViciousCurrentBun · 24/11/2024 16:03

This week

Apple crumble
Baked potatoes
Salmon
Baked flatbreads
Spicy lamb with chickpeas

YorkshireFelix · 24/11/2024 16:48

@Jeezitneverends good to know they work well! I think I'll get some Amazon knock offs, thank you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/11/2024 19:10

Today's success was little hassleback potatoes. I quartered and hasslebacked them, anointed them with a bit of oil and salt and pepper and did them on 200 degrees for about 25 minutes. Really good.

artant · 28/11/2024 19:56

I never cooked hasselback potatoes. Must try it sometime!

LilacLilyBird · 01/12/2024 19:42

Mince pies are delicious 180 5 mins
