Today I've used my air fryer to ...

Following on from the thread about an air fryer changing your life, I was disproportionally annoyed about the number of rather snobbish posters who are clinging on to the idea that we all just use our air fryers for chips and nuggets.
I have no idea why this annoyed me so much - and I have no idea why I feel the need to defend my use of my AF, as a keen cook.
So, it got me thinking about how I use mine, and I thought it would be interesting to show all those who think they are a little bit too common for them what they can be used for.
This week, I have used mine for:

Tuesday: Jacket potatoes for lunch, sausages and black pudding for all-day breakfast
Wednesday: Cooking tuna pasta bake made on the hob
Thursday: Roast pumpkin for Thai pumpkin soup, cook salmon and meatballs for dinner
Today: Apple and blackcurrent baked oats for breakfast.

Anyone want to join in?

About 20/25mins? I started with the Gu jars before I shelled out on the metal ones and they did work but didn't rise as well as in metal (I think cause they aren't as deep maybe) but they were still good.... I sound like a real yorkshire snob!

usernotfound0000 · 16/11/2024 21:43

Bacon for breakfast and gnocchi for a crispy gnocchi Greek salad for lunch.

Hoppinggreen · 16/11/2024 21:49

Thai style chicken mince meatballs
Pre fried the Tofu for a Thai green curry
Jacket potatoes
Home made cheese and onion pasties
mexican chicken empanadas
baked garlic mushrooms
Baked beetroot with feta
Lemon chicken orzo
Baked tomatoes to make into soup

Didn't eat beige rubbish before I bought the airfryer so don't see why I should now

BurntBroccoli · 16/11/2024 21:59

Garlic mushrooms

Roast sweet potato wedges with cayenne and salt

Garlic and cheese flatbread

Beyond burgers (they are amazing in the air fryer)

Roast tomatoes with Olive oil, smoked paprika and basil

Yes and fish fingers to make a lovely fish finger and tartare sauce sandwich with rocket.

Sorry for the basic question but can you put tin foil containers in the Air Fryers for those who are cooking pies, crumbles, Yorkshire puds, toad in the hole etc?

I've got the Ninja double drawer version and the answer to my question could make a massive difference to my life! Slight exaggeration but would further reduce my oven use.

Really good thread idea.

Yes absolutely you can use foil. It's basically a mini oven not a microwave.

I also find the small enamel dishes are brilliant.

Helpagirlout222 · 16/11/2024 22:08

I was wondering this too re containers...what is everyone putting their food in?
The gnocchi/ patatas bravas sound amazing but don't want them all rolling around!

When using foil just make sure it's weighed down by the food as light things have a tendency to fly around! Learnt that from a first cheese toastie attempt!

Thank you. I'm feeling foolish now as I've had mine two years.
The explanation of it as an oven is very helpful.

Very excited and will be buying some foil containers tomorrow!

These are great / just make sure you measure your air fryer to check the dish will fit.

We bought some silicone liners but they made everything taste funny so we use foil or a pyrex lid

BurntBroccoli · 16/11/2024 22:16

@Hoppinggreen
Yes and the silicon liners are a nightmare to clean.

Foil or enamel for me.

Helpagirlout222 · 16/11/2024 22:23

Thank you!!

suki1964 · 16/11/2024 22:33

Whatever container that is oven proof, works in an air fryer

Before you spend on special sized dishes, those tin foil take away dishes work fantastic

Air fryers make the BEST toasties, just make the toastie and hold them together with cocktail sticks

I have made yorkies from scratch and tbh they have been a tad doughy at the bottom. No problem, just take out of container and flip upside down

For the beige snobs, you have just got to make a fishfinger sandwich using the air fryer . I made it to 58 years old before I had a fish finger that was crunchy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. An air fryer thats them to another level. If I wasnt already smitten by them, Id buy one just for fishfingers

bellalou1234 · 16/11/2024 23:43

To come home late from work and put some garlic bread cheese in. 3 minutes, and it was better than any takeaway. M&S flat garlic bread with cheese

FusionChefGeoff · 16/11/2024 23:52

Quorn and pepper fajitas
Baked potatoes and sausages
Homemade bbq chicken for sarnies / salads
Homemade falafels
Reheat frozen chip shop chips
Halloumi for salad

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/11/2024 10:00

At risk of lowering the tine of the thread, if I wanted to try frozen oven chips in it would I need a bit of oil?

I don't. Just chuck them in. Think they probably already have a coating of oil of some sort on them anyway.

I want an air fryer for jacket potatoes but I keep hearing that they don't cook well in one at all

Has anyone got an air fryer that makes excellent baked potatoes. Soft on the inside and crispy skin

Hoppinggreen · 17/11/2024 10:21

You need to microwave them for around 8-10 minutes first then rub a bit of olive oil on and airfry for 15 minutes
I did this yesterday and mine were perfect

We microwaved them for ten minutes. Which setting do you use on the air fryer? Maybe I made a mistake by choosing the 'bake' setting, rather than the air fryer one? The skins were really good even without oil, but the insides took forever to be cooked through.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 17/11/2024 10:40

I wouldn't use 'Bake', the temperature is too low. I use air fry.

Alphaalga · 17/11/2024 10:43

Chicken. Nothing does it better than my Ninja.
