Today I've used my air fryer to ...

Following on from the thread about an air fryer changing your life, I was disproportionally annoyed about the number of rather snobbish posters who are clinging on to the idea that we all just use our air fryers for chips and nuggets.
I have no idea why this annoyed me so much - and I have no idea why I feel the need to defend my use of my AF, as a keen cook.
So, it got me thinking about how I use mine, and I thought it would be interesting to show all those who think they are a little bit too common for them what they can be used for.
This week, I have used mine for:

Tuesday: Jacket potatoes for lunch, sausages and black pudding for all-day breakfast
Wednesday: Cooking tuna pasta bake made on the hob
Thursday: Roast pumpkin for Thai pumpkin soup, cook salmon and meatballs for dinner
Today: Apple and blackcurrent baked oats for breakfast.

Anyone want to join in?

How do you boil eggs ? I've always failed to do any type of egg.

Chuck them in whole and cook. Eat or cool in cold water if going to keep for later.
Just search ‘ air fryer boiled eggs’.
Get used to your own fryer - I do 160’ C for between 8 and 12 mins ( or a bit longer if large eggs) depending how soft or hard I want them.

This week I have made lentil soup with a ham hock (ninja 9 in one so pressure cooked). Dehydrated orange and apple for Christmas decorations. Made enchiladas from freezer bean chilli and wraps. Soy and honey chicken thighs last night. So a variety of things really!

NC543210 · 15/11/2024 22:41

I made chicken tikka in mine tonight.

I use it for most things. It annoys me putting the main oven now.
I only use that for pizza and Yorkshire puddings.

I have the ninja grill too and tend to use that for joints and steaks.

@ladymalfoy45 okra friess* here you go! So good and so easy. I use cornflour instead of arrowroot, but basically half loads of okra, shake with oil, then shake with the spice/cornflour mix and stick in the air fryer.

They sound amazing!

Onion bhajis. I love them, but hate deep frying (never do it), and the smell lingers for days. Hardly any oil used in the AF, and they are almost as good as real thing without the million calories and stinky kitchen. And soooo much better than the doughy things from a supermarket.

Have you got a recipe for the onion brains please

Courgettesandonions · 15/11/2024 22:54

I reheated some 2 day old takeaway poppadoms that had gone soft and chewy. 2 mins in the air fryer and they were hot and super crispy again!

Scampi

Poggishairtufts · 15/11/2024 23:05

Turkey, rosemary and brie burgers cooked in the AF, mushrooms with garlic in the other side of it and I'd already baked the focaccia rolls in it beforehand 💅🏻

This really made me giggle

Citrusandginger · 16/11/2024 10:39

Not the culinary heights but warm mince pies. The pastry doesn't go soggy like it does in the microwave and unlike an oven the filling doesn't resemble molten lava.

Just a perfect, warm mince pie in 3 minutes.

Can't remember who said gnocchi, but if you add paprika or chilli and some garlic paste, you end up with a version of patatas bravas.

I used my Airfryer to roast salmon fillets with a soy honey glaze. Used it for roasting sweet potato to add to a chicken stew I was making. It's the best for cooking bacon, gets it crispy and the fat all collects on the bottom under the grated tray.

This week Ive use the Dual drawer for
Sausages
Mushrooms
Roasted Peppers
Jacket potatoes
Chips ( hand cut not frozen )
Banana Bread
Boned Shoulder of Lamb
Roasted carrots and Parsnips
Roast Potatoes

My 15 in 1 this week has been used for

3 litres of greek style yoghurt
Vegetable Soup
Gammon joint
Butternut and spinach Dhal
Butternut squash and red pepper soup
Loaf of protein bread ( using up the whey from the yoghurt )
Beef stew

Only other forms of cooking this week has been a frying pan for some eggs, a small saucepan to make onion sauce and the microwave for some veg

Not for onion brains 😄.
Here's one I got off YouTube. It's flexible, you can adjust the seasoning to suit yourself. Just make sure there is more onion than batter so it's not like the awful supermarket lumps of stodge. Just adjust the amount of flour to the size of the onion(s). This recipe makes nine bhajis which fits nicely in my square basket. There are other videos for OBs with variations, but this one is good and not complicated.

Onion Brains! 🧠 😂

Anyway, I also made onion bhajis a while back in the air fryer and just used one that I found on the internet. I think it was this one.

Trying jacket potatoes tonight but they're taking ages and I'm not convinced they're going to be faster than in the oven at this rate!

I always nuke them first - 5 or 10 mins depending on how many or size. just till when you give a squeeze there is a bit of give, then throw them in to air fry or roast - beautifully crispy crunchy skin, fluffy potato I dont do the oil rub, cant see the point tbh, Im happy with how they come out

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/11/2024 20:40

We did nuke them first. The skins were lovely but they took forever.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 16/11/2024 20:53

For jacket potatoes I do 15 mins microwave then 20 air fryer.

Mittens67 · 16/11/2024 21:22

I can’t use my oven anymore due to disability so tomorrow I will be baking my christmas cake in my air fryer. Did this last year and it worked well.
Today I made an omelette and then baked apples in the air fryer.

Yeah I mean from scratch. (Have chucked a few aunt Bessie ones in from time to time!). People on this airfryer Facebook group I’m in have had success using little metal tins but I’ve only just mastered from scratch oven ones, don’t want to waste batter.

I always make my own in the air fryer now.. have brought metal tins to do them in.. trick is to get oil very hot first.. they are fab if I say for myself..DH makes great roasties in the other drawer...we are a great couple.😂

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/11/2024 21:32

Blackberry crumble in the air fryer today.

I think I might attempt this tomorrow with my Gu jars. Oil blasted in them for a bit then in with the batter. How long do you do them for as I don’t want to open the drawer?
