Today I've used my air fryer to ...

Following on from the thread about an air fryer changing your life, I was disproportionally annoyed about the number of rather snobbish posters who are clinging on to the idea that we all just use our air fryers for chips and nuggets.
I have no idea why this annoyed me so much - and I have no idea why I feel the need to defend my use of my AF, as a keen cook.
So, it got me thinking about how I use mine, and I thought it would be interesting to show all those who think they are a little bit too common for them what they can be used for.
This week, I have used mine for:

Tuesday: Jacket potatoes for lunch, sausages and black pudding for all-day breakfast
Wednesday: Cooking tuna pasta bake made on the hob
Thursday: Roast pumpkin for Thai pumpkin soup, cook salmon and meatballs for dinner
Today: Apple and blackcurrent baked oats for breakfast.

Anyone want to join in?

This week I have:

  • roasted tomatoes before using them to make soup
  • reheated DS’ roti that he made in cookery this week
  • kale crisps
  • reheated fish pie
  • baked pain au choc and croissants
  • sausages and potato waffles (10 min kids dinner)
  • quorn nuggets

I regularly roast a 2kg chicken in 1 drawer with the roast tatties/yorkies in the other. I’ve never had roast chicken so Good

angryanderson88 · 15/11/2024 19:42

Regulars here:

Roasted veg - works brilliantly for root veg.

Halloumi for wraps.

Finishing off microwaved baked potatoes to make them proper jackets in under 10 min.

Perfect crispy bacon

Apple crumble

Full roast dinner with either small chicken or a joint in one side and the roast potatoes in other.

Garlic bread/ pizza bread/pizza cut into slices.

I will admit we also use it plenty for freezer food like oven chips, nuggets, fish fingers but this way they take a lot less time and energy and come out lively and crispy. But it's far from the only use.

Comedycook · 15/11/2024 19:44

So far today I used it to cook...

A chicken breast this morning for DD sandwiches that I put in her lunchbox.

Some bacon for dhs breakfast.

A corn on the cob and garlic bread for dds dinner

I also used it to roast some chicken legs for ds.

Roasted broccoli spears with sesame oil
Salt and pepper tofu
Roast stuffed peppers (quick after work meal if you roast the veg in it first and use microwave rice)

JawsCushion · 15/11/2024 20:00

This is a great thread but for me I'd need more help with how and how long.

All I've done in mine so far that I can remember are sausages, chips, sliced potato boxes, roast potatoes which were amazing and battered duck things. My so. has warmed up doughnuts and cooked all sorts in it.

friendconcern · 15/11/2024 20:01

Today, cook sausages, warm up chippy chips, heat up a fat rascal

KnottyKnitting · 15/11/2024 20:13

Crispy chicken thighs with home made potato salad and coleslaw. Yum!

Also cooked the chipolatas for the roast last Sunday.

Air fried chips ( with convection oven baked fish) easy lazy meal!

Bacon for a sarnie.

I replaced my crisper plate recently and instead of sending me one ( which I ordered) they sent me a box of 4! So I usually chuck it in the dishwasher and use a fresh one from the pile in the cupboard! Means it's easier to use

IBlameTheDog · 15/11/2024 20:19

Bit boring compared to some of these, but we had chicken breasts wrapped in bacon tonight. It was lovey. Juicy chicken and crispy bacon.

xsquared · 15/11/2024 20:26

I've only got a diddy student sized one but it's been very handy for when I cook for myself and don't want to turn the oven on. From this week:
Salmon fillets
Potato wedges
Tuna cheese melt on toast
Roasted Mediterranean vegetables for pizza
Garlic bread
Roast aubergine to put in a curry

The first thing I ever cooked.in it was a jacket potato and now I would never go back to using the oven! It is by far the best baked potato I've had.

Also love reheating chippy chips and pizza in it, as they don't dry out.

StripyTrousers · 15/11/2024 20:40

Doing water free boiled eggs in the air fryer has reformed my life ( not kidding, I love a boiled egg/ egg sandwiches etc)

StripyTrousers · 15/11/2024 20:51

Forgot to add- had 2 soft boiled eggs for breakfast this morning

Bixterret · 15/11/2024 20:52

How do you boil eggs ? I've always failed to do any type of egg.

I love cooking and I love my airfryer. One thing I haven't attempted is Yorkshire puddings as seen on Facebook. Has anyone had success with these?

I did!! They were fabulous! 😂 I used the little gu glass pots, put them in the air fryer first with oil at the bottom to heat it and then put the yorkie mix in. They were huge.

DaisychainXYZ · 15/11/2024 21:03

Warm up croissants

How do you cook a tuna pasta bake that was already made on the job?

Ooh I have loads of them 😊. Might give it a bash!

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 15/11/2024 21:08

@ApolloandDaphne

Cook the pasta on the hob and mix ingredients together then crisp off in the air fryer

I think as long as the oil at the bottom of the pot is hot you’ll be ok. The only thing I found hard was not being able to watch them rise like you can in the oven!

Fizzadora · 15/11/2024 21:14

Well I fancy an air fryer but we just don't have the worktop space. Plus we are retired so DH has all the time in the world to cook a meal as that's all he does all day😉

JudyP · 15/11/2024 21:15

So much stuff is made in ours!
Jacket potatoes
Bacon for bacon sarnie
Chicken breasts
Hassleback potatoes
Salmon
Fish goujons
Roasted asparagus
Roasted cauliflower - game changer in getting kids to eat cauliflower
My son does a weird ham and egg sarnie - raw egg on top of bread - but it works!

Just realised I got excited - not done all of those today obvs....
Also sausages! No splatter compared to an and no turning compared to grilling - easy

Dahlia444 · 15/11/2024 21:28

Crispy gnocchi for tea tonight. Got the idea in a restaurant (probably deep fried). Air fryer ones were really good too.

birchtree23 · 15/11/2024 21:39

Dehydrated my hydrangeas and look fab in my newly decorated living room
