What sides would you serve with a shepherds pie?
the mince itself I tend to put carrot, onion, peas and sometimes mushrooms in.

Surely it's a meal in itself... Or am I just lazy

cattower · 20/09/2024 14:20

I’ve never had it with a side 🤔

poppyzbrite4 · 20/09/2024 14:20

Broccoli
Cabbage
Peas
Courgette

Growsomeballswoman · 20/09/2024 14:20

Peas, Yorkshire puds and extra gravy.

TimelyIntervention · 20/09/2024 14:20

I don’t serve sides with it. It contains meat, potatoes, veg (I do put plenty of veg in mine). I don’t think it needs anything extra and I’d rather just have a larger portion!

I think it is but I want to do smaller portions with sides I think! :)

Brocolli , peas, green beans

Soluckyinlove · 20/09/2024 14:22

I'd have it with something green: Broccoli, cabbage or kale and definitely extra gravy.

heldinadream · 20/09/2024 14:23

Broccoli. And leave either the peas or mush or both out of the sheps and have as a side. And Branston Pickle! Not really a side, I know, but yum.

Cornettoninja · 20/09/2024 14:23

Mint sauce Smile

if pushed I think veg not already included is fine, so broccoli, carrot and swede mash maybe.

Ames74 · 20/09/2024 14:23

I'd always serve veg with it. One or two out of green beans, broccoli, runner beans, cabbage, carrots, sweetcorn etc.

SquigglePigs · 20/09/2024 14:23

I usually just do some green veg. Usually green beans and cabbage/leafy greens.

We always had it with Beetroot , Peas and extra cheese

Peridot1 · 20/09/2024 14:25

I don’t usually put peas in it so often serve peas on the side. DH always has pickled beetroot with his.

Yes! Green veg always

thistimelastweek · 20/09/2024 14:26

@Soluckyinlove this, anything green.
Sometimes I do swede mashed with butter and loads of pepper - a complete meal with next to no chewing

😀

twentysevendresses · 20/09/2024 14:27

Always with lots of green veg like savoy cabbage, broccoli and courgette. Of course being northern I have lashings of extra gravy 😍

Dartmoorcheffy · 20/09/2024 14:27

Green beans, runner beans or sprouts, and red cabbage

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 20/09/2024 14:27

Tends to be green beans here

Ghilliegums · 20/09/2024 14:28

I mean, peas or baked beans are the two correct answers.

AdaColeman · 20/09/2024 14:28

Chips obviously!

Only joking!
I think of it as a complete meal. It's quite a winter time dish, so perhaps serve with cabbage or mushy peas, or even red cabbage, or broccoli would work too.

Try it! I loooove Branston but not with many things - cauliflower cheese, NOT macaroni cheese which is defo ketchup territory, couple of other cheesy things. Sheps pie and Branston is an opportunity to eat Branston that doesn't involve cheese (unless you ever put cheese on top of the potato, which just might be a thing I have done...) 😂

NavyTiger · 20/09/2024 14:40

Baked beans

Ellepff · 20/09/2024 14:43

If I wanted to make it healthy I think I’d do broccoli on the side. Or if surprise guests showed up and I had to stretch it.
