What sides would you serve with a shepherds pie?
the mince itself I tend to put carrot, onion, peas and sometimes mushrooms in.

best sides?

I usually do broccoli or a leafy green on the side. I put carrot, onion and peas in the filling too but I doubt it comes to 2 portions of veg which is what I like to put with dinner as a minimum as it’s hard to get them all in otherwise.

Green beans , broccoli or cabbage.

Autumnweddingguest · 20/09/2024 15:14

Steamed broccoli and cauliflower or romanesco.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 20/09/2024 15:15

Broccoli and Yorkshire puddings.
I used to have it with spaghetti hoops ❤️

ErrolTheDragon · 20/09/2024 15:16

Brocolli and/or some other green veg.
And I'd rather have peas with it than in it.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 20/09/2024 15:16

Broccoli or green beans, extra gravy. Cheese and leeks on the mash.

Those saying peas do you not have peas in it?!

SeatonCarew · 20/09/2024 15:22

Given the veg you add, I'd say roast potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower. I'd also put grated extra mature cheddar and thick tomato slices on the top before putting the shepherd's pie in the oven.

torturedpoet13 · 20/09/2024 15:27

Yorkshire puddings and gravy or my husband likes it with beans

PenelopePitStrop · 20/09/2024 15:32

Green leafy veg (cabbage / kale / broccoli etc) plus peas or green beans .

I would never put peas in the pie.

Surely it's a meal in itself... Or am I just lazy

More vegetables are definitely needed.
Cabbage or broccoli

Green veg. Or beetroot / red cabbage.

toastofthetown · 20/09/2024 15:46

I love garlicky greens (like the ones in this link here). Spring greens, kales and cabbage are all delicious. I think a side is needed to give a textural contrast.

Lulu1919 · 20/09/2024 15:47

Peas
Broccoli
Green beans
Extra gravy
Yorkshire pudding

worcesterpear · 20/09/2024 15:50

If it's a proper shepherd's pie made with lamb I think we usually have peas and sometimes maybe green beans too. When we have cottage pie, we put peas on the plate underneath the pie, and have baked beans at the side.

Ilovelemonandsugarpancakes · 20/09/2024 15:50

Red cabbage or beetroot and crusty bread with butter

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 20/09/2024 15:53

I don’t add peas to mine, so I serve peas as a side, then also broccoli or red cabbage.

Flashcardsagain · 20/09/2024 15:54

The phrase "sides" has just made me shudder.

kitsuneghost · 20/09/2024 15:58

I have salad with mine

DaisyChain505 · 20/09/2024 16:00

I do it with broccoli and sometimes a Yorkshire pudding or a slice of buttered bread to mop up the gravy.

gingercat02 · 20/09/2024 16:02

Greens of any sort. Cabbage, spinach, broccoli etc. DH likes beans 🤮

SweatySpaghetti · 20/09/2024 16:04

I put loads of veg inside of mine, but I do still like to serve it with broccoli or cabbage

dh likes his with baked beans and sliced bread but I’m not a huge fan of that combo.

if dc had the choice he would want his with chips or Yorkshire pudding.

muddyford · 20/09/2024 16:05

Tinned peas...But roast parsnips or roast butternut squash are good too, and Brussels sprouts in season.

Isthiscorrect · 20/09/2024 16:05

Any green veg and carrots. Wouldn't do parsnips as too beige with the shepherds pie.
I see shepherds pie as an easy meal so generally we have it with frozen peas for speed.
