Mmmm ... I am a cheese monster

I like to cut Cheddar (the v strong stuff that makes your teeth itch) into cubes and eat it simultaneously with grapes

I am asking for a heart attack

Hulababy · 11/03/2008 20:17

I occasionally buy pre grated cheese - I did when my food processor was broken for example, and I but grated mozerella for pizza, and freshed grated/shaved parmesan too

I buy frozen Yorkshire puddings for DD and her friends after school

I sometimes buy pre-prepared salad, leaves and veg - for when I am in a rush after work they can be handy sometimes.

I once needed to make a very quick casserole for DD and her friend - I bought chopped everything, even onion, on my way home, threw it in a pot and into the oven, wennt out to get DD and friend and it was ready by time home almost.

I sometimes by prepared packs of fruit such as for DD's odd picnic lunch or snack. She likes pineapple and melon but we don't often use a whole one quick enough

I always have frozen chips/wedges in the freezer

Didn't recent 'research' show that bagged salad was pre-washed in piss or something?

Hulababy · 11/03/2008 20:22

I am happy to pay more for convenience occasionally

DD would eat Yorkshire puds with everything, so yes, handy to have them in.

what is it coated with to stop it clagging together? is it oil or something.

have you tasted M&S's cornish crunch cheddar? omG it's GORGEOUS. it won a medal. ( victoria cross i believe). it does not come pre-grated.

DumbledoresGirl · 11/03/2008 20:28

I buy prepared salads - because only I eat salad in my family and I would have to eat nothing but salad to get through all the ingredients if I bought them separately.

I buy ready made pastry because I can't make pastry no matter how much I try.

I do not buy pre-grated cheese though.

And as for pre-diced vegetables. Has anyone seen the chopped carrot and swede mix that Tesco sell? It looks like sick and I couldn't buy it for that reason.

Aitch · 11/03/2008 20:31

again with the m&s but when dd was wee and STARVING one day i grabbed a bag of those carrot batons they sell. the ones for cooking, not the daftie wee picnic things.

we were quite happily eating them in the queue (although again, i think i could taste a coating) when a shop assistant came up and pointed out that on the bag it says very clearly that the carrots are not to be eaten raw and must be cooked. what is THAT all about?

notnowbernard · 11/03/2008 20:34

Ready-made frozen pastry I have recently discovered is a fantastic invention

Bagged salad... NO... surely a little gem lettuce and a loose tom and pepper will do?

No frozen veg except peas and sweetcorn

Do get frozen fish

Hulababy · 11/03/2008 20:35

Oh yes, I definitely use pre-prepared pastry

Aitch · 11/03/2008 20:35

(do people really make their own pastry? gosh).

notnowbernard · 11/03/2008 20:41

I recently tried to make pizza bases and it was a complete disaster

DD1 refused to eat it

Said "This isn't right Mummy, is it?" She was just 4 at the time

Frozen puff pastry has opened up a whole new world for me

Habbibu · 11/03/2008 20:45

I make pastry... (not puff, obv). Am I a freak?

BBBee · 11/03/2008 20:51

domestic sluts!

I make my own cheese from my own breast milk - anythiung else is plain lazy.

Yorky · 11/03/2008 20:52

I buy lazy garlic it's fab.

hifi · 11/03/2008 21:04

maybe its a good idea, except for parmesan. i have so many deep scars from graters, so many people have had a slice of me.

notnowbernard · 11/03/2008 21:04

Lazy garlic?

MissusH · 11/03/2008 21:04

I bought ready-made mash last week

In my defence the starch from potatoes makes my hands swell in a nasty allergic style and my regular spud-peeler (dh) was working away...

(actually it was pretty nice - dd commented that there were no lumps like mummy's!!)

DforDiva · 11/03/2008 21:05

what is it do you supposed to grate your own cheese to save some poor person grating it for you.
i buy them too. and use half and choke half when gone off.
