M&S Snacks - Long Haul Flight

Have a long-haul trip to Japan on Friday (via Dubai so 8 hours then 10 hours) and going to go to M&S later to stock up on snacks - any suggestions? I prefer savoury to sweet but I also adore their cookie dough bites... it's more for entertainment purposes and something to look forward to though as I get so BORED travelling (never sit still at home).

Have over 2 hours in Dubai airport and also flying with Emirates who are pretty good with the food/drinks anyway but want to treat myself - I eat really well normally so all calorie count is going out of the window for the next three weeks!

(Also any other suggestions to occupy myself would be most welcome since I can't even sleep on planes...)

Why do you need additional snacks on long haul?

Just cos your bored?

You've got a bad relationship with food going on there.

Really? How about because I'm on holiday and want to treat myself?

I'm a size 6-8, eat healthily 90% of the time and work out 4-5 times a week - I'm all good thanks

Really?! C’mon, you don’t ever like to treat yourself to something you wouldn’t usually have?!

OP I’m a big fan of the basic salt and vinegar chipsticks but the bbq peanuts are fab!! Enjoy!

Honey roasted cashew nuts, the cream cheese and chive crisps

crumpet · 04/10/2023 10:36

It’s also worth finding out what snack will be on board - dd loved the noodle pots on Cathay

Try crochet? Crochet hooks are OK on planes.
snack wise we love their giant mint chocolate buttons and I am partial to a cappuccino bar.

Can't beat Percy Pigs (appreciate you prefer savoury but they are a handbag essential 🤭)

Bendysnap · 04/10/2023 10:39

Emirates have huge trays of snacks in economy (and every other class): sweet and savoury. You can get up every half an hour and go graze, no need to bring your own. Plus on each flight you’ll be served 2x meals (min) plus snacks at your seat. Bringing your own food unless you have severe allergies is a bit OTT.

You cannot be serious. I travel long haul regularly NZ to UK and always have things in my bag which I do not usually buy. Long haul is long and boring and a few treats make it a little more fun.

WTF??

boobybum · 04/10/2023 10:42

Might be an idea not to take nuts in case there are people with allergies.

GingerIsBest · 04/10/2023 10:43

DD and I spent a happy couple of hours doing this intricate colouring in things on a long haul flight recently. Something like this.

Kept us entertained for a bit.

Usually I just read my kindle. If you are into podcasts, download a couple before you leave. Find a game on your iPad or computer that can mindlessly entertain you for a while too - this is the time to fully embrace candy crush! Grin.

If you have a tv show you like, download and binge watch. when I wasn't colouring, I was catching up on 911 last time!

As for snacks, M&S salt and vinegar crisps are THE BEST.

Try Nytol and a couple of wines to help you sleep.

StuffLoriThangs · 04/10/2023 10:45

If you can get them - M&S do lovely Rosemary crackers. I like to dip them in their hummus.

Yes, the last flight I was on, we were asked not to eat anything with nuts in as one of the passengers had an allergy. I was looking forward to finishing off the last bit of Fruit and Nut in my bag, but had to wait til I got home!

VeridicalVagabond · 04/10/2023 10:46

Whatever you do don't get all nut based snacks - 8 hour flight recently and all I'd bought was nuts or things with nuts in. Just what I'd happened to fancy at the time.

Announcement over the tannoy on take off of someone with a severe nut allergy and please don't open any nut products for the duration of the flight.

WhatapityWapiti · 04/10/2023 10:47

True re binge watching a whole season of something, it is the perfect excuse to indulge.

mrsbyers · 04/10/2023 10:49

Don’t take hummus it’ll be confiscated as we found out recently

BiliousOhGod · 04/10/2023 10:50

I'd take some sweet things to eat in Japan. Some of their snacks are a bit of a shock to the British palate in terms of taste and texture... (red bean paste). They are not horrible, but possibly wouldn't satisfy a craving for something sweet / familiar.

FrenchandSaunders · 04/10/2023 10:51

I'd just get a bit pissed, listen to a podcast and fall asleep .... but then I've possibly got a bad relationship with alcohol 😁

I know there is cup noodles on the Tokyo leg of the flight outside of meal times... I might give one a try although suspect I'll be eating a lot of noodles over the next few weeks!

Some great suggestions....I'd actually forgotten about Percy Pigs so that's cheered me right up today! I'm not a fan of nuts so wouldn't be taking them anyway. I will be taking advantage of the free wine though!

I'm more of a reader than a watcher and have my kindle completely full. I already take meds that are meant to help me sleep and have some new earplugs which I'm hoping will help but time differences, etc. are going to baffle my body clock!
