If you had to make 40 filled rolls.

I need to feed some volunteers, grab and go style. I'm thinking rolls, crisps, fruit and baking. I'm thinking average two rolls each. Let's say 40 to be on the safe side.

Don't want to spend an excessive amount, but do want it to be decent. Also don't want to get bogged down in faffy fillings.

What tips do you have?

What fillings and in what proportions?

Definitely vegetarians in attendance, possibly vegans. I'm not going to start taking orders.

NorthWestThree · 12/06/2023 16:31

Cheese
Ham
Hummus and salad
Tuna mayo

Chemenger · 12/06/2023 16:31

I would do:
Plain cheddar cheese (for fussy non-vegans who won't eat anything else)
Ham and tomato (because I like them)
Hummus, cucumber and lettuce (for vegans and also because I like them)
Tuna, mayo and sweetcorn (because I like those too).

Equal numbers. I would cut them in half to let people have more choice. If you can arrange for the vegans and veggies to have first choice all the better.

Chemenger · 12/06/2023 16:32

I am NorthWestThree's sandwich twin!

headcheffer · 12/06/2023 16:33

Honestly I would do some cheese, some ham, and some houmous with peppers. Keep it simple.

APurpleSquirrel · 12/06/2023 16:37

I've only recently catered for kids parties, but the most popular has always been tuna mayo, followed by ham.
Cheese is always left despite everyone claiming it's the only thing their kids will eat.
Agree go for hummus for vegans if you don't want to go down the fake meat route.

BLT, Tomato and onion, Turkey plain.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 12/06/2023 17:30

Some great ideas here.

remember to check that the spread you are using for the vegans is dairy free.
the vegan option would also be dairy free just in case…

the other thing to maybe consider is gluten free - just in case there is anyone maybe keep some cheese slices or a small amount of another filling separate. You could buy a box of gluten free cheese crackers that have a long use by date on them. If no one gluten free attends they can get used up easily.

fruit and crisps are a great plan especially if the crisps are plain - then they will suit pretty much every dietary requirement.

Carsarelife · 12/06/2023 17:37

Cheese & Chutney
Plain Ham
Chicken Salad
Tuna Mayo

Batalax · 12/06/2023 17:44

Cheese/tomato, ham/tomato and tuna mayo/cucumber slices.

Really plain and simple. The tomatoes and cucumber can be taken out if not liked thereby giving six options.

GenAndWine · 12/06/2023 17:44

Pav Bhaji - it’s like a mashed vegetable curry sandwich (that sounds awful but it’s lovely).

Banh mi - normal and veggie versions

Veggie Philly cheese-no-steak (fry mushrooms, peppers and onions, add cheese so it melts, fill rolls)

French dip/beef and gravy sandwiches - use a thermos for the gravy and have little takeaway dip type tubs for people to pour a serve for dipping or pouring over the roll.

Timshortforthalia · 12/06/2023 17:46

How much can you be bothered? If you want the least fuss, I’d go: 13 each of plain cheese, hummus and peppers/cucumbers and plain ham.

MaggyNoodles · 12/06/2023 17:48

Cheese and onion
Tuna mayo (possibly also with onion)
Corned beef and pickle
Sliced egg and salad cream.
😋

medianewbie · 12/06/2023 17:53

10 hummus & cuecumber
10 egg & cress
10 ham or beef & tomato
10 3 bean salad & lettuce
Plain crisps. Apples.
Flapjack. Brownies.
(Fruit & cheese scones / rockcakes)

I'd do sub shaped rolls & cut in half.
Give the vegans & veggies 1st go.

I hope they're grateful :)

GiraffeDoor · 12/06/2023 17:54

I know this wasn't really the question, but grated cheese always looks so much better than a sad little slice (and it doesn't get "sweaty" in the way that sliced cheese can).

WhamBamThankU · 12/06/2023 17:59

I find houmous in a sandwich too slippery. You can make a really nice 'pulled' sweet potato by grating the potato and frying with garlic and bbq sauce till it softens a bit. Always goes down well when I make them in brioche rolls.

fizzyfood · 12/06/2023 18:28

Have you looked at the Morrisons food to order? The sandwiches are very reasonably priced.

almondflake · 12/06/2023 19:14

@fizzyfood we had these platters for my granddaughters party on Saturday , they were really good 😊

I love these!
They sound slightly more labour intensive than the rest of the suggestions though 😂

PoorlyDS · 12/06/2023 19:25

Carrot and hummus
Cheese and pickle
Egg mayo
Tuna Mayo
What time shall I get there?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/06/2023 19:25

Hummus and grated carrot always good for us veggies
also, meat eaters always seem to go for at least one veggie sandwich so I make more veggie than meat

mumda · 12/06/2023 19:49

NorthWestThree · 12/06/2023 16:31

Cheese
Ham
Hummus and salad
