What do you do with salmon?

We like salmon as a midweek quick tea but I'm fed up of it how we currently do it (1mins each side then 10 mins in oven with either Piri Piri or honey). I'd love some creative ideas please!! Thanks

Salmon and asparagus fritata?

Shinyandnew1 · 05/03/2023 12:00

Pesto and soy sauce-in foil in the oven for 20 minutes.

bellac11 · 05/03/2023 12:01

Poached in different flavoured milks
Curry flavourings on the top but not in a curry, dont think it works in a curry
Salmon pate with lots of horseradish in it
Wrapped in bacon

My kids fav dinner is salmon pasta with peas and creamed cheese. Bleugh.

We tend to cook in the microwave. Two oblong fillets takes 3 mins and cooks beautifully. Try it!

Boiled potatoes in an onion, tomato and pepper sauce with a good sprinkle of smoked paprika, salmon steaming on top for the last 5 mins. Gorgeous!

With lemon, parsley and tagliatelle, with sesame oil/seeds, miso and noodles, can add chilli

Luckydog7 · 05/03/2023 12:03

Put in Measuring jug....

300ml of cream
50g butter
3 crushed cloves of garlic
Juice from 1 lemon
Salt and pepper

Warm slowly in microwave until the butter has melted.

Stick the salmon in a baking tray and pour the cream sauce over. Sauce should be deep and half submerge the fish (if not use a smaller dish.)

Cook at 160 for about 30minutes. Or until salmon is cooked.

I had a lovely salmon in a pub once,, pesto made with watercress instead of basil, on top of the salmon with new potatoes

Also might sound boring but hollandaise sauce is sublime

Made this recently and it was really lovely.

We really like this Harissa Honey Salmon recipe from Gousto.

This is lovely but maybe a bit much for midweek meals.

Wallabyone · 05/03/2023 12:09

I pan fry it until it's crispy, then add soy sauce, a drizzle of honey and some sesame seeds. We have it with sticky rice, broccoli and edamame beans.

Crumpetdisappointment · 05/03/2023 12:12

i have recently been cooking it in the microwave while oven out of action, with
new potatoes, green veg
salad.

in the oven i cook with sweet chili sauce, same with new potatoes,
my ds makes a lovely salmon coconut curry

also buy salmon trimmings and make a lovely pasta with creme fraiche, leeks, mushrooms, green beans, whatever else you fancy.

CatOnTheChair · 05/03/2023 12:12

Pesto on top, and oven baked.

Wrapped in a parcel of greaseproof paper with butter, lemon slice and crushed garlic.

A version of medieval salmon pie - roll out puff pastry, sprinkle some died butter, raisins, grated ginger and flaked almonds. Put a almon filled (skinless) on top and wrap. 180C for about 25 mins.

DH steams with black beans.

We're quite fussy about eating salmon in this household, so it's usually quite simple... probably boring:
Roasted with lemon and dill, served with new potatoes, more dill, a green veg of some sort/salad style with a creme fraiche dressing.

I once tried doing a ginger soy sauce salmon thing (we love east/southeast Asian food) and we all agreed we prefer plain salmon. We do love chowder though, so that's another recipe but requires other seafood as well.

AbsolutelyNebulous · 05/03/2023 12:13

Mediterranean salmon

Crispy paprika salmon

Zaatar garlic salmon

Bbc Good food also has lots of recipes.

We love salmon in my house Smile.

I’m so lazy I just smear on pesto or butter and pop it in the oven for 20 minutes.

Serve with rice/pasta and green veg/salad.

Getthefiregoing · 05/03/2023 12:39

I fry the fillets with some garlic, salt and pepper until the outsides are crispy. Then we have them with potatoes (done any way, but usually mashed) and some green veg like kale, broccoli, asparagus. We drown the lot in lemon juice and have a big dollop of creme fraiche on the side.

I also like it flaked through tagliatelle with a sauce made from Boursin cheese drizzled all over. More lemon juice, cracked black pepper and parsley to top it off.

We eat a lot of salmon but don't really deviate from these recipes so I'm following with interest.

We have it in a curry and it’s blooming lovely.

I fry mushrooms and maybe pepper add a sachet of curry sauce, a tin of lentils or chickpeas and then cook chunks of salmon for about 8 minutes. I usually add a load of broccoli or green beans that I’ve already par-boiled for the last couple of minutes.

It all takes about 15 minutes in total so I can easily do it whilst the rice is cooking.

macncheeeesey · 05/03/2023 13:03

I season it with whatever I have - five spice, harissa or jerk seasoning. Fry it. Serve with medium chow mein noodles. I make a sauce with juice from half a lime, soy sauce and sriracha sauce - all equal parts. When chow mein is done, I add most of the sauce to it and stir. Serve with green beans.

Had this recipe in a Gousto box and me and the kids love it!

I don't use the juniper berries and it's fine.

Fish cakes
Risotto with roast fennel
Strong spices work well too

Zippidydoda · 05/03/2023 16:52

I just fry it. I love the crispy top it gets when fried!

caringcarer · 05/03/2023 16:53

I simply place on a piece of foil and squirt with.lime juice or lemon juice fold into parcel and cook for 15 mins in oven. Serve with tiny potatoes and peas.

Nimbostratus100 · 05/03/2023 16:55

Lay it out lovingly on plates, looking steamy and delicious, turn around to reach for perfect accompanying veg, turn back to find salmon gone from one plate, first cat's tail vanishing around corner, and second cat on kitchen side with bashful look and piece of salmon dangling from mouth

Vintagegoth · 05/03/2023 16:56

Baked in foil with lime juice. Flaked and served in warm tortillas with sour cream, avocado, chillies, coriander, sweetcorn etc whatever you would normally like on tacos
