I like it with scrambled egg or in a cheese toastie

Cheekyandfreaky · 14/02/2023 22:14

Another vote for scrambled egg and with rye bread- the combo is delicious!

Love Kimchi. Make it myself; have a big jar in the fridge right now. Eat it as an accompaniment to Korean/Japanese dishes, or in cheese toasties (for DH) or omelette (for me).

I’ve also got a big jar of Scandinavian-style pickled red cabbage, and will soon make a jar-full of Russian-style sauerkraut with white cabbage and carrot. Fermented foods are very good for your gut health (and delicious, too!).

How do you make it please?

SiobhanSharpe · 14/02/2023 22:15

On top of cheese on toast, or under the cheese but on top of the toast IYSWIM.

Throughabushbackwards · 14/02/2023 22:16

Kimchi in steamed rice is my favourite easy dinner.

I also eat it on crackers with avocado and tomato.

Hobbesmanc · 14/02/2023 22:16

We made our own. But it exploded in the fridge. Scary stuff

LubaLuca · 14/02/2023 22:20

I quite like it, but I think I'm going to enjoy it more than I actually do. I love pickled vegetables, but kimchi doesn't have the same appeal. I think it's a texture thing, it lacks crunch. I've only eaten it in a couple of vegetarian places that make their own without fish sauce though, so maybe I've just not hit on a good one yet.

Andante57 · 14/02/2023 22:31

Anyone who’s never made it before: make sure you keep it in a container with a secure lid as it smells very strong. In Korea it used to be kept outside in brown ceramic jars but now people have a fridge especially for kimchi.

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2023 22:33

I like it. I guess when I’ve had it before it’s not been a truly authentic version but I enjoy the flavours together, the sharpness and acidity combined with the crunch.

Lightninginabox · 14/02/2023 22:40

Could you possibly share a recipe for the kimchi and pickled red cabbage (in fact all three if that's not too cheeky!)

Sd352 · 14/02/2023 22:53

On an American style grilled cheese sandwich

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/02/2023 22:59

One of my favourite sandwiches is omelette and kimchi. The one that I buy is made in Ireland and isn't too spicy. I make the omelette and then fold the edges in to make it rectangular, put it on some nice granary sliced bread, add kimchi and another slice of bread, so nothing difficult or fancy.

I love kimchi but my digestive system really dislikes it, or anything else acidic. It gurgles the whole way through.

Good fermented food video

Made kimchi and Sriracha this morning.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/02/2023 23:00

www.culturedfoodco.ie/store/p/kimchi This is the one that I buy.

Ostryga · 14/02/2023 23:03

Jesus Christ the vile descriptions on here! Just because you don’t understand a food doesn’t make it vile, or gross or anything else. You are just uneducated.

I have an incredible kimchi recipe if anyone wants it. I make it maybe once a month depending on how much I made the month before!

AdventFridgeOfShame · 14/02/2023 23:04

I'm up for another recipe @Ostryga
Please

You didn’t ferment it properly. It’s not scary you just don’t know what you’re doing 😂

OnMyWayToSenility · 14/02/2023 23:10

I buy it from the local Asian supermarket it's Korean.. I have made it too, and my friend gave me her mums spice mix to blend from Korea oh that was the best!
But I have it on toast with lots of Mayo, also good with eggs and ham!

Love kimchi

Hubblebubble · 14/02/2023 23:16

Look on the ingredients list and check it has anchovies in for the real stuff.

hryllilegur · 14/02/2023 23:17

I love kimchi.

If you don’t like it spicy, you can get white kimchi. Or water kimchi. There are lots of different types of kimchi.

747jumbo · 14/02/2023 23:20

Love it. Got into it working in Korea. Eat it with rice dishes or salads or cheese or straight from the jar on its own!

FuckeNell · 14/02/2023 23:21

@Ostryga yes please!
