Satsumas

Is it even possible to buy these anymore? As opposed to Easy Peelers or clementines or any other similar?

Yes, yes it is, but not all year round. I'm making the most of satsumas being available atm (they're my favourites).

I can't stand that "easy peelers" are everywhere, that is not a real name/variety of citrus fruit, and they are not bloody easy to peel (satsumas are the easiest but are never called easy peelers, ffs).

i get disproportionately annoyed about this, can you tell Grin

Oblomov22 · 18/12/2022 20:09

Hope so. Christmas is the time / season for satsumas. They taste better now than at any other time. When you get a good one, they are superb.

AliMonkey · 18/12/2022 20:13

Sainsbury's had them at start of December for one week and not had them since. Every week I go in and search among the various orange-type fruit to see if they're back but not been so far. They are so much nicer than all the others!

gamerchick · 18/12/2022 20:14

Can't stand easy peelers either. The words make me feel irrationality cross. They are not easy to peel!

BlandSoup · 18/12/2022 20:17

I love satsumas so much more than east peelers. No one else seems to notice the difference. But you can see them in the bag, a pale orange, kind of flat on top and bottom. And so tangy. You just have to hope you get lucky when you go to a supermarket

Matildahoney · 18/12/2022 20:24

I've found my people! Had a big discussion (light-hearted) with my oh last week, he insists they're all the same!!
I got some in Tesco today.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/12/2022 20:25

I posted about this last year! I love satsumas and really don't want east peelers. Independent grocers/ market stall have satsumas still.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/12/2022 20:26

I've got some hide ones at the moment from the fruit stall outside my hospital. They are delish!!

tobee · 18/12/2022 20:33

Thank you for your replies! Just haven't seen them in ages. I look and am disappointed! Xmas AngryXmas Grin

I tend to think of them as being sort of baggy (the skin less attached to the fruit) and more squashed than the alternatives.

Clementines and easy peelers are ubiquitous and taste different.

Incidentally, when did you last walk through an east peeler grove?

tobee · 18/12/2022 20:34

When I say squashed I mean less spherical

Got satsumas today in m&s. Just about to have one.

BlandSoup · 18/12/2022 20:34

Yeah they’re flat on the top and bottom. And a different colour. And five million times more delicious

GardenersDelight · 18/12/2022 20:35

I could have written so many of these replies! No they're not the same as all the easy peelers dear husband!!
Definitely available in waitrose at the moment. I'm bulk buying!! 😁

bigbadbarry · 18/12/2022 20:36

Clementines are the worst. Easy peelers give me the rage. I ❤️ satsumas and you can get them from Ocado

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 18/12/2022 20:36

I bought some in sainsburys last week, was really pleased as I love them and they're not always easy to find. Wish I'd bought a few bags now as I ate them all in a couple of days!

Easy peelers all seem to be clementines if you look at the variety label, I don't know why they changed the name as they're not easy to peel!

AtomicBlondeRose · 18/12/2022 20:37

They’re hard to find this year - plenty of pleases have them in theory but there’s just an empty crate most of the time! Always lots of easy peelers but I hate those lying little bastards.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/12/2022 20:37

I bought some easy peelers (what?) in a fit of oh it will do - no it will no do. Very disappointed.

rhubarblover · 18/12/2022 20:39

I too have found my people! Can’t stand Easy peelers. Satsumas are far superior in every way. Got 2 bags of them from M&S yesterday while I saw them. Juicy and delicious.

choochooandspook · 18/12/2022 20:42

I remember tangerines at Christmas, i don't see them anymore.

impressivelycunty · 18/12/2022 20:44

I adore satsumas - they are so lovely to peel and have a really different flavour. I am often found muttering darkly at the "easy peeler" bastards in the shops - you used to be able to buy boxes of satsumas in Sainsbury's- I'd be happy with one of those for Xmas (+ piece of coal) Grin

AnotherEmma · 18/12/2022 20:58

Ahhh, my people Smile

Does anyone else have a husband who insists on buying non-satsumas thereby crowding the fruit bowl with inferior citrus fruit?

jay55 · 18/12/2022 21:01

I got a net labelled satsumas delivered from Sainsburys today. They are clearly clementines, I'm not happy.

Notanotherone6 · 18/12/2022 21:01

Fuck 'easy peelers'. Satsumas all the way. Saw some in Lidl last week, although their fruit can be questionable at times.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 18/12/2022 21:05

Yes bought recently in Waitrose and Tesco. I'm also a hater of an easy peeler. Only really like satsumas. So enjoying them now. Also they remind me of Christmas as a child for some reason!
