Is it even possible to buy these anymore? As opposed to Easy Peelers or clementines or any other similar?

Yea you can get them, you need to look properly and accept this is the only time of year they are available. Can’t get them after Christmas.

I got mine from Asda, they are huge and plump with skin that peels in seconds.

tobee · 18/12/2022 21:39

Right! I've looked online by way of research and can only see Waitrose claiming to have them if I was making a delivery order. I think I'm going to have to go in person.

I had some vague memory of satsumas mostly coming from Israel and there being an issue; poor harvest or something?

Easy peelers must have good pr these days. I'm sure only satsumas were available when I was a small girl!! I also think of them as being paler skinned.

Once a year would do admirably @TerfOnATrain

I can’t stand tangerines or clementines or easy peelers. Has to be a satsuma for me.

AnotherEmma · 18/12/2022 22:58

IME online shopping is no good for satsumas and you just have to look whenever you're in a shop. I do it throughout satsuma season and whenever I pop into a supermarket (even a small corner shop type one) I keep my eyes peeled (see what I did there Xmas Grin)

Ineedwinenow · 18/12/2022 23:02

Our local fruit and veg stall in the market have tons! I’ve had a couple this evening! If you do have a market near you, it might be worth a trip to see if you can get any!

I try not to buy fruit and veg from stores anymore, we get more variety, better quality and size at a lower cost!

tobee · 18/12/2022 23:17

Thank you for all the tips! I will be hunting about all over likely places!

Thank you for this thread…I had 11 minutes left to finalise my online order and remembered I hadn’t ordered any. Satsumas definitely the best!

Mydogatemypurse · 18/12/2022 23:20

Lidl have satsumas

onepieceoflollipop · 18/12/2022 23:20

(Ocado had several options)

fedupofthiscoldffs · 19/12/2022 09:54

Tesco had some yesterday but they looked shite. Devastated

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 22/12/2022 07:43

I hate easy peelers too. To my mind satsumas, clementines and tangerines all tasted quite different when I was a child and I liked all of them. Now they all seem to have morphed into one boring taste, and they are rarely easy to peel.

Sainsbury's had them at start of December for one week and not had them since. Every week I go in and search among the various orange-type fruit to see if they're back but not been so far. They are so much nicer than all the others!

They had them
Yesterday. But they are tiny.

I got a net labelled satsumas delivered from Sainsburys today. They are clearly clementines, I'm not happy.

This would make me murderous!

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 22/12/2022 14:57

Yes, bloody ‘easy peelers’. I would like to have a choice about what variety of fruit I buy, thank you very much.

Shall we start a MN picket line outside any offending supermarket?

Marie1331 · 19/11/2023 12:41

Satsumas already available in Tesco's, wonderful. Also hate easy peelers.

gamerchick · 19/11/2023 12:42

Does anyone actually like easy peelers?

LittleStrayMouser · 19/11/2023 12:46

Also in Sainsbury's. Am gorgingmyself. 😳

crumblingschools · 19/11/2023 12:51

I have found my people. Satsumas all the way for me, can’t stand the inferior other variety of fruits. DH can’t understand it, thinks satsumas are tasteless but will buy them for me as soon as he sees them in the shop

crumblingschools · 19/11/2023 12:52

Why are other varieties available all year round but not satsumas (not necessarily saying it is a good thing the others are readily available)

Floralnomad · 19/11/2023 12:52

I’ve bought satsumas in M&S , Tesco and Lidl in the last 2 weeks .

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2023 13:21

gamerchick · 19/11/2023 12:42

Does anyone actually like easy peelers?

Yes, most of them are fine.

Don't supermarkets often just use this as a name for whatever small citrus is in season? None of which are hard to peel like big oranges.

Soozikinzii · 19/11/2023 13:25

O I've found my tribe !I ONLY like real satsumas not the other types . Also Macintosh red apples which are impossible to get hold of now!

trakehner · 19/11/2023 13:32

I was disproportionately excited to buy satsumas in M&S about 10 days ago and ate the whole bag in one sitting! Oh I do love a good satsuma! Really really need to go back and get some more asap before they are gone again. Can't stand the clems and easy peelers. A good tangerine is ok but nothing beats a satsuma.
