Hot drink for after 8pm

Can anyone please recommend a nice hot drink to have in the evenings? Or the BEST decaff tea you've had?

I can smell and taste the difference in decaf tea and I hate it, currently drinking decaff Tetleys with a screwed up face.

I like my normal tea, strong with a little bit of milk and no sugar.

Anyway, don't want caffeine. Hot chocolates are a bit too rich for regular drinking.

I'm bored of mint tea.

Any other soothing caffeine free suggestions?

Pukka apple and cinnamon - it's like autumn in a mug

Caffeine makes my yd sleepy, but it keeps me awake. I made the mistake of having an espresso martini one evening and was buzzing all night whilst trying to sleep. I can't drink a drink with caffeine in after 4pm

@longtompot I had a similar experience once when I accepted a Jagerbomb without knowing it had an energy drink in it! (A long time ago when they were 1st a thing!)

Are people REALLY affected by caffeine to the extent that they can’t sleep after a cuppa?! All this “ooh can’t have a coffee in the evening else I won’t sleep tonight” can’t really be true?!

I can't sleep after most decaff teas, or chocolate ! I now don't have caffeine after 11am and sleep much better

stillherenow · 12/09/2022 22:34

As in I need zero caffeine - some decaffs have a little bit

RoobarbandCustud · 12/09/2022 22:47

I used to give the kids warm milk with a few drops of vanilla extract.
I really like chamomile tea.
I know what you mean about decaf tea - it's sort of thin.
My DP likes Roobius Earl Grey - a friend made me a cup by mistake, I found I really liked it, it has a smoky lapsang taste.

I only drink decaf tea as I have a problem with caffeine.

I have tried them all and generally I can get a nice box or two of one brand and then the next ones I buy are not the same strength at all. It's happened time and time again and I've wasted so much money buying tea that was undrinkable.

Happily, though I have found that M&S blue box decaf tea has been the most consistent - been drinking this one for several years now with no change yet- touch wood.

I have had Decaf Yorkshire tea and that was a very close runner up but it's a bit pricier for no increase in enjoyment.

Thesearmsofmine · 12/09/2022 22:48

I like M&S spiced apple tea at this time of year.

naichick · 12/09/2022 22:48

I love drinking chicory, its a bit more like coffee but no caffeine, can get it in health food shops

@Monikaar I'm being investigated for a sensitive bladder. One thing Dr Google recommended was cut out caffiene, as it could increase it. I've stuck to mornings on caffeinated, lunchtime onwards decaf. Since changing, the amount I've got up to pee overnight has gone down a lot- often sleep til 5 without waking now.

Titterofwit · 12/09/2022 22:59

Sorry - M&S decaf teabags are in the green box ( obviously I cant carry colour in my head )

doris9034 · 12/09/2022 23:01

Horlicks or ovaltine - but the instant ones so you make them with hot water rather than milk, and so they are less heavy / calorific

eatsleeplaugh · 12/09/2022 23:03

Chai latte, no caffeine and can buy it in a powder and just add hot water 😋

kateandme · 13/09/2022 06:30

Warm milk and a small spoon of sugar is the cosiest.
And a dip in digestive 😉
Hot nesquik
Hot ribena

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/09/2022 06:31

Hot milk or ribena

kateandme · 13/09/2022 06:35

My sister warms apple juice and loves it.and this year she wants to get adventurous with spices in like cinnamon so we'll see how that goes!

extraorderly · 13/09/2022 07:07

We drink the red label tea bags from sainsburys and their blue decaf version - can't tell the difference!

N0tfinished · 13/09/2022 08:13

Clipper Rooibos (Redbush). I drink my black tea same as you but prefer the Rooibos black. I've tried lots of brands and Clipper is my favorite

TheClitterati · 13/09/2022 08:18

There are hundreds of nice herbal teas. Many makers do mixed boxes with a few different varieties.

Try a few. I like tumeric ones, echinacea ones. I'm not keen on the sweet teas but there are lots of those around too for those who do.

cultkid · 13/09/2022 14:12

Twinings the best I found for decaf

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 14/09/2022 14:10

Yes, I definitely notice I don't sleep well if I have caffeine in the evening.

Another poster has just reminded me how delicious Bottlegreen Winter Spiced Berry cordial is, made with hot water. Like mulled wine without the wine, or very grown up Ribena. Looks like Ocado have stopped selling it, so I'll need to go hunting for a bottle at Waitrose.

ThisisCollie2022 · 14/09/2022 21:27

Update: plain hot water is winning here. its extremely refreshing and very comforting!

Never ever thought I'd ever drink plain hot water and like it. It just feels so "right" in my body!

I sound ridiculous 🤣

I've started having a little kallo chicken stock mixed with boiling water, like a diy cupasoup. It's alright. Might try a bit of marmite mixed in tonight.
