Do you eat meals with your dc?

Mine are still very small, oldest is 2.2, and I don't normally eat meals with them during the week. I don't fancy what they eat for lunch, and if they're having something like salmon, it seems a bit decadent for me to have the same iykwim. I tend to grab a cheese sandwich or toast when they go down for their sleep. They eat their dinner at 5pm, OH not back from work until much later so we eat together then.
Been thinking about it, and think I should make more of an effort to eat lunch with them.

What do you do?

ds (18m) loves strongly flavoured things and has always flatly refused to touch a certain organic brand of food where everything ime tastes pretty much the same. we kept a couple of the jars handy for emergencies or out on errands etc and always found it a waste of time as he'd end up eating something from our plates. loves sun dried tomatoes, very strong cheddar (although hates cheese sauces!), tomato based sauces, mango and apricots.

interestingly dh's father is indian and they always ate curried food from an early age - bil hates spicy food now but used to eat it when young and dh is the total opposite.

and yes can we ban childrens menus please please please?????

LOL at CloudAtlas forgetting about your thread that kicked off for so many others.

Until last week DCs here thought they didn't like cheese sauce either but loved cheese.

I think it is the unfamiliarity of cheese sauce as I stopped making it when I had 'two under two' (couldn't guarantee 10 minutes without interruptions so stuck to food that could be safely left for a minute or two). Last week they ate it but only a very small amount because I put only a small amount of sauce all sticking to the pasta (rather than lots of it slopping over the plate like I prefer!)

An update on the curry house visit:

we all went on Friday evening (dp, dc1 5 and dc2 3 and I) and had a great time!

The dcs mainly had fairly mild starters and popodums and mango lassi but also tried some of our main courses. They've been telling everyone they know about it and want to go back.

excellent, that's great! the one time we took dd to a curry house we COMPLETELY fucked up by giving her something that somehow was spiced really mild until about 2 mins later when it blew your head off. we chowed down, agreed it was fine and gave it to dd after about a minute...
