My OH cooked for me tonight, the WORST meal i have ever eaten. It was meamt to be a stirfry with onions mushrooms carrots prawns etc but he burnt it in the oven (blame ps4🙄) and it tasted like burnt chargrilled watery mush lol. So were ordering takeout so i am just curious what is the worst meal you have ever cooked or been served that you ate because you didnt want to hurt someones feelings

Philadelphia cheese steak at a hotel overnight in Philadelphia en route to California. Utterly vile.

BleedinGums1 · 09/01/2021 19:00

@Souvlaki it sounds hideous haha. I hope the trip was better than the food!

Tinned meatballs in a "casserole" when I was a child.

My mother's idea of a casserole involved tins of beans/tomatoes, Bisto granules, flaccid frozen veg. I remember bursting into tears (more than once) when she lifted the lid of the pot and the stench hit me, followed by the sight of all the meatballs bobbing to the top like little grey, filthy eyeballs.

I cannot eat any cheap processed meat now. It's not a snobbery thing, I eat other crap. It's the trauma of tinned meatball casseroles and Spam atrocities as a child.

DH was making a stirfry and added some Szechuan peppercorns that I'd bought on a holiday to China... about 5 years earlier so they must have expired. After a couple of bites, everything started tasting incredibly salty and then it was like shovelling spoons of salt into our mouths. Even water tasted like salt! It was actually quite funny, but it was awful and it also had a slightly soapy taste. We tried our best but had to throw the whole dish out - the first meal we've ever had to do that with.

...he burnt a stir fry....in the oven????

Why was it in the oven? Confused

Georgyporky · 09/01/2021 19:24

I made a fish curry from a proper recipe that was thrown away.
Also, gammon in Coca Cola was dreadful.
I think DH is cooking something at this very moment that might be a contender. He's bought sausages for it, he knows that I don't like sausages

Not worst meal ever but I remember once my Grandma made an apple pie. She was a good baker so we were all looking forward to it. Mum served it up with lashings of cream and we all tucked in.....only to discover she’d used salt instead if sugar!

The first time DP cooked for me he started out making a stir fry and ended up presenting a veggie cottage pie (made from the stir fry ingredients).

It had taken him close to 3 hours so it was about 11pm and I was starving and pissed as a fart because I'd been waiting and drinking. I ate it because I was hungry (& drunk) and madly in love.

That was 20+ years ago and his cooking has vastly improved thank god.

Without doubt the tinned Partridge SIL served up on Chrsitmas Day (Spain) she thought it was a treat. I wanted to cry. It was a disgusting vinegary mess.

Cheesypea · 09/01/2021 19:28

My mum used to do stuffed lambs hearts. Or overcooked liver. Her speciality was fried eggs, burnt at the bottom and raw at the top.

MrsGrindah · 09/01/2021 19:28

Tinned partridge! Oh you poor sod.

Georgyporky · 09/01/2021 19:29

My DM used to buy an enormous turkey for 2 adults & little me.
We were still eating it in January - just cold with chips or mash , & peas.
Or a sarnie with pickle EVERY lunchtime.
I never eat it now unless there's no alternative.

BillieSpain · 09/01/2021 19:30

Horrendous! [sick]

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 09/01/2021 19:30

The whole tongue that I was served in France springs to mind. I was on a language exchange so ate it in polite horror. Am now veggie.

I still can't eat cous cous after a trip to Tunisia.

And some of the offerings in China were horrible.

Bilgepumper · 09/01/2021 19:31

It was a pub meal. Cold prawns with served with sweet chilli sauce followed by deep fried lamb chops. Even the dog wouldn't eat the chops.

SilverOtter · 09/01/2021 19:31

Christmas dinner at my sisters, circa 2006. Roast pigeon each stuffed with a sausage, served with rock hard barely cooked veg, and gravy like brown water🤮

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 09/01/2021 19:35

Stir fry in the oven?! Shock

jay55 · 09/01/2021 19:36

Ordered pizza in a touristy restaurant, I was given hot dog rolls with ketchup and grated (not even melted) cheese on.

ILoveAnOwl · 09/01/2021 19:38

My husband made 'French Onion Soup'. The house stank for days and it just tasted like really nasty gravy. Awful!

Georgyporky · 09/01/2021 19:38

"And some of the offerings in China were horrible."
Badly cooked food, or unusual ingredients to a "bignose"?

We had a nasty, arrogant guide in China.
When I specifically said I wanted to try things, he constantly responded "you wouldn't like that". Even though he'd seen me tucking in to chicken feet.

Horehound · 09/01/2021 19:39

A whole can of refried beans on toast when I was about 9 years old and staying at my aunts.

I still kind of gag at refried beans now. The toast wasn't even buttered!

NeonSparkle · 09/01/2021 19:41

My dad used to make me eat stuffed marrow when I was a kid and I detested it! Watery, bitter, mushy marrow with horrible, grisly grey, mince in a watery yet oily sauce. Horrific

userxx · 09/01/2021 19:43

Philadelphia cheese steak at a hotel overnight in Philadelphia en route to California. Utterly vile.

Really? I've always imagined these to be the don of steak sandwiches.
