My OH cooked for me tonight, the WORST meal i have ever eaten. It was meamt to be a stirfry with onions mushrooms carrots prawns etc but he burnt it in the oven (blame ps4🙄) and it tasted like burnt chargrilled watery mush lol. So were ordering takeout so i am just curious what is the worst meal you have ever cooked or been served that you ate because you didnt want to hurt someones feelings

Not really bad in the context of these stories, but most disappointing meal of my life was on the Amalfi coast. In an, admittedly touristy, venue in some gorgeous square overlooking the sea. Ordered a mozzarella salad. The mozzarella was hard, dry and plasticy. The tomatoes were tasteless. The olive oil came in a single serving packet - like ketchup or mayo. That was it. There wasn't even an option of a little salt and pepper.

And it cost EUR15!!!

I'm vegetarian, DH isn't, and years ago, not long after he had moved in with me, he made me okra lasagne. Haven't been able to eat okra since, putting it in lasagne somehow upped the slime factor by a huge amount.

My mother was an excellent cook when we were growing up but it was good solid basic stuff. Roasts with the best gravy, a raspberry pie I still dream about. Meatballs were the Christmas treat and I've never managed to duplicate them properly.

And then there was her spaghetti. I never really liked it much but it was edible. And then I went to uni and a friend in residence with me complained about the canteen which served bad spaghetti - I thought it was wonderful, chunky tomato meat sauce, al dente noodles, parmesan cheese on top!

What I found out then was that my mom's recipe for spaghetti was to boil to death some pasta while she fried a small chopped onion to which she then added the pasta and a couple of tins of condensed tomato soup liberally watered down with the pasta water. That would be allowed to cook for an hour or so before she added the chopped hotdogs. This was made in a very large pot and would feed our family of 6 for 2 dinners.

Cottage pie at my ex pil's. Mil forgot to put the gravy granules in so it was basically mince in water with lumpy mash potatoes thrown on top.

Also a mil meal. We did WW years ago and she made a seafood noodle meal from a recipe in one of the books. It was pretty much congealed sticky overcooked noodles with the sauce that had absorbed completely into the noodles and chewy prawns and squid and possibly some other form of seafood, I've no idea all of us took one mouthful looked at each other and all claimed it was vile. We binned it and me and my exH got a take away on our way home. To be honest most meals there were shite.

Some of these are brilliant.

My worst was the mousakka my aunt dished up when I was a child, I wasn't a fussy kid, I would eat things politely even if I didn't much like them. But I gagged on the first mouthful and only the horror of vomiting on the tablecloth forced me to swallow. Vile.

I didn't eat mousakka again for 20 years.

Pasta had just been discovered by my mother and she decided to make a "Chicken Lasagne".

Cutting into it we discovered whole chicken quarters - bones and all. Basically chicken quarters wrapped in lasagne sheets.
