My OH cooked for me tonight, the WORST meal i have ever eaten. It was meamt to be a stirfry with onions mushrooms carrots prawns etc but he burnt it in the oven (blame ps4🙄) and it tasted like burnt chargrilled watery mush lol. So were ordering takeout so i am just curious what is the worst meal you have ever cooked or been served that you ate because you didnt want to hurt someones feelings

80s school dinners especially tapioka still makes me gip and skin on custard although loved pink sponge cake

‘Chillie con carnie’ invited for dinner and thought lovely. Person cooking had obviously no idea what chillie con carne was. Frozen reformed chicken nuggets with a bottle of chillie dipping sauce poured over with some frozen peppers mixed through but not cooked. Served with that microwave rice except it wasn’t microwaved.

I lived in the Middle East for a time. A local friend made us some local delicacies- most of which were lovely.

1 dish though was goat meat, which had been pounded so all the fibres were seperated. It tasted like and looked exactly like hair in paste!!!

Fermented shark in Iceland was the most gag inducing thing I've eaten though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/01/2021 01:05

I actually bought a recipe book specifically because I wanted the recipe for half a pig's head.
I've never got round to making it but I still want to.

Shark . Inedible. Basking Shark - run crying from the building, The economical pizza with pilchard topping. The most upsetting was the deluxe pizza in dimly lit restaurant which included unexpected tentacles as part of the topping, My vote for worst professional chef fails goes to the hotels whose kitchens can't work out how to cook Knorr packet soup. Expected in UK but was awed to discover a Swiss hotel that couldn't hack this simple delicacy.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 16/01/2021 17:51

Why was he putting stir fry in the oven?
Surely the clue is in the name 🤔

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 16/01/2021 17:53

Once my MIL was making a veg lasagna.
My SIL announced she was coming so my MIL thought she’d better make some more. She had run out of courgettes and swiftly started cutting a cucumber to replace it. 🤧

User556 · 16/01/2021 17:57

I had made a cheese and cucumber sandwich for my DS5.
My exHs niece said she wanted one too. Her mother proceeded to make a cheese, cucumber and jam sandwich

Ludo19 · 16/01/2021 18:02

Wood pigeon.....complete with pellets from being shot🤢🤢🤢

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 16/01/2021 18:04

At a friends for dinner
It was a slimy crime caramel thing

The texture was 🤮

Terracottasaur · 16/01/2021 18:04

Made a Prawn risotto. Realised I didn’t have wine. Decided to use rum instead, imagining a Caribbean type flavour. Didn’t realise it was actually coconut rum liqueur. Essentially made rice pudding with fish. Binned it after one spoonful and ordered a pizza.

I’m actually a good cook but that was an aberration!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 16/01/2021 18:05

My husband had a go at making home-made pasta once - it was a weird, lumpy, rubbery mess....

Inaquandry19 · 16/01/2021 18:08

My mum used to make this pork and pineapple casserole. It was disgusting. Tasted and looked like vomit.

Gingerkittykat · 16/01/2021 18:11

As a child it was tongue sandwiches, the texture was all grainy just like you would expect a tongue texture to be.

As an adult it was boxing day soup a relative had made. Think of the leftover turkey, roast potatoes, leftover sprouts and veg all chucked into a pan together and boiled with some stock. It has now become a family legend and ever the person who made it laughs about it.

EternalOptimist7 · 16/01/2021 18:21

Luckily I haven’t had too many bad meals but something my Mum used to make still makes me urge when I think of it. It had fennel with breadcrumbs & whole boiled eggs on the top. I love eggs but not when they’re cooked & put into a dish like that. Bleurgh!! Once had fish which was definitely on the turn. I wasn’t I’ll but doesn’t all night waiting to be!

EternalOptimist7 · 16/01/2021 18:21

Ill not I’ll!

EternalOptimist7 · 16/01/2021 18:22

Worried all night ! Can’t type!

WeThreeKingsofAsgard · 16/01/2021 18:40

Deepest darkest China, lunch in a factory on a buying trip. Usually stuck to boiled rice & stir fried broccoli as the meat could not be trusted but was really craving Western food by this point. Supplier suggests takeaway Pizza Hut- great! Will take a while to drive there & collect it but cold pizza is fine.
I order cheese & tomato. Safest option I thought.
Cue lots of frantic calls between supplier & driver and a couple of hours later the pizza turns up. Toppings are...squid & strawberry. Apparently they’d ‘sold out’ of cheese & tomato and this seemed the next safest option! Grin

@Fuckingcrustybread

We were presented with half a pig's head, lovingly displayed on a platter, it had one eye, one ear and half of its snout, it had been steamed, Also a dish that smelled of shit, it was the anus of some underwater species . Sea cucumber, vile, disgusting chewy but gelatinous inedible muck. Soup with real hen and ducks feet floating in the bowl. A massive heaped platter of toads, snake soup, fried bumble bees.
Sounds like that dinner in that Indian palace in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
IsabellaMozzarella · 16/01/2021 19:25

My husband once made spag bol and decided to blend the meat sauce. It was really weird. Why he did it is a long standing mystery

wolfmom · 16/01/2021 23:14

My partner trained as a chef, he is usually really good in the kitchen except when it comes to soup. He made spinach soup and put a good amount of plain flour in (apparently that's what chefs do) the result was like eating watered down slime. He's been banned from making any soup now

Serin · 16/01/2021 23:53

I'm normally quite a good cook but the kids have never let me live down the time I followed a recipe for "bean crumble". God it was vile.

The worst meal I was ever served was a bowl of chips with tomato soup poured over. Total sogginess.

poppy54321 · 17/01/2021 23:14

Vegetarian meal in the 90's in Spain. By the Alhambra. Consisted of a tin of mixed veg on a plate and nothing else. Remember those tins from the 70s diced carrots peas and green beans. That was it, vile.

poppy54321 · 17/01/2021 23:15

Should add it was for my husband not me thankfully Grin

username888765 · 17/01/2021 23:25

My Aunt is the worst cook on earth. I will hear no argument.

I visited her and she made something she called 'lasagne'.

It was in a bowl because it had the consistency of water. It was tomato puree with courgette and a lasagne sheet floating on top. We had to eat it with a spoon - in silence.
