Will you be having it tomorrow?
Links or no links, what are you serving it with?

@Coldhandscoldheart

The Co-Op is open today 8am-8pm, I know because the assistant was moaning about it when I was in earlier and they normally have puff pastry.

Fifer here, steak pie with link but it is only the past few years I discovered it. My exes grandad was a butcher who made it that way and I loved it so much I continued.

Served with roasties, roasted carrot and parsnip and sprouts.

I'm surprised how many people are having neeps, I've never known people to eat them unless it is with haggis.

Our tesco is open today from 11am. Don't know about the other supermarkets

Mrsjayy · 01/01/2020 09:35

I was inMorrisons and Asda and they are both opened today .

Yes the west has had a bigger problem with poverty than anywhere else in Scotland. Glasgow remains the most socially deprived City in Scotland and that is despite coming a hell of a long way since the start of the 20th century. It is also the most populous city. Not that other area of Scotland don’t have poverty of course but by numbers there are more in the west.

We had ours yesterday as DS is off for dinner with his girlfirends family today and didn't want to miss out....

Skinners of Kippen pie, no links, served with proper buttery mash and carrots. Was delicious.

Having homemade nando's style chicken today (which DS2 is also not wanting to miss Hmm), sure he'll have lovely steak pie for dinner again :)

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2020 13:08

I pick the pastry from the top and cook it in the oven and do the filling in a pot. Our oven is shite so it's impossible to get the center of the pie hot while still having the oven hot enough for the pastry to rise without burning the fuck out of it.

Apolloanddaphne · 01/01/2020 13:08

Fifer here. Steak pie from the local butchers, no links. Will have with mash, peas and carrots.

NannyPear · 01/01/2020 19:51

Sooo.... How was everyone's steak pie? Mine was yummy. Asked my gran and granda about the links, sometimes they chuck some in!

macaroniandpizza · 01/01/2020 20:00

My steak pie was amazing and ds ate every bit and wanted more lol

MrsBartlet · 01/01/2020 20:06

Just had ours and it was lovely. I moved to England 40 years ago when I was 9 but we still have steak pie every New Year. I don't put sausages in mine but my mum does (and it is lovely!) We are from Glasgow. I was just going to say it must be connected to poverty as it was a cheap way of filling the pie but I see several people have beaten me to it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2020 20:59

We had the links discussion on FB, we didn't have links growing up and were poor but east coast. Concluded that we didn't have links in steak pie as we didn't really have steak pie - sometimes a bit of stew with a bit of puff pastry popped on the top but mostly we'd have stovies/tattie soup and tripe. Mince round if the boat was being pushed out :o

Mrsjayy · 01/01/2020 21:07

Oh god Mince round i loved those we used to have 1 on a Saturday with chips and gravy

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2020 21:16

Mrsjayy - I still buy them occasionally. DH is dismissive of the relative protein content for something that is supposed to be all about the mince.... Grin

We had them with beans and chips or mash growing up.

Mrsjayy · 01/01/2020 21:21

Dh wouldn't eat it either says they are all gristle Confused

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 01/01/2020 21:24

Had home made steak pie tonight made with puff pastry. Roast potatoes, corn, creamed parsnips and roasted carrots. Yorkshire puddings too as married to a Yorkshire man!

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 01/01/2020 21:28

Mine is still cooking, will be ready shortly, been far too hungover today. It's been cooking away for nearly 4 hours and does contain links

Coldhandscoldheart · 01/01/2020 21:33

What is mince round please?

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2020 21:34

Can't believe you've not eaten yet, i'm going to bed soon as I have work in the morning Sad

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2020 21:36

Like this, you can get proper butchers ones which tend to be nicer :)

Mrsjayy · 01/01/2020 21:38

A mince pie with puff pastry that isin a round foil dish.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 01/01/2020 22:05

@WaxOnFeckOff we got up really late and I haven't been able to face cooking, steak pie is always worth the wait though

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2020 22:16

It is indeed @SheSaidNoFuckThat. I went to bed with a burgeoning migraine about 2.30am, woke up at 8.30 feeling better so just got up. I need to be up for work at 6.30 tomorrow so can't sleep in too late or wont be able to get to sleep tonight.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 01/01/2020 22:18

I'm on nights tomorrow so sleep pattern is messed up anyway. Migraine not a nice way to start the New Year though, glad you're feeling better

RoseDog · 01/01/2020 22:25

Our steak peh was lovely!

I love a bells mince round classy I know with chips and beans!

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2020 22:25

Thanks, lots better unfortunately as could do without work tomorrow! Enjoy the steak pie and my sympathy with the nights :(

I'm going to head up with a book and hopefully get to sleep before DH comes up and starts snoring.
