Broccoli
Tomatoes
Butternut squash
Spring onions
Cabbage

We are having
Tofu Stir fry
Veggie Sausages, cabbage and Squash mash
Beanie Burrito Bowl

Not sure about friday yet, something quick maybe a frittata
Out on Saturday
Savory pumpkin pie

have you tried neeps and tatties with your turnips.really nice.
we also swap or half and half it in the usual tartiflette recipe.delsih.
as a topping for hotpot.
mixed with bacon and ushroom in a gratin.
also used it a bit like you would water chestnuts in thia red curry
and in curry with sweetpotato
think that all our turnip makeovers recipes ive got lol.

MelanieCheeks · 11/11/2017 15:59

Have literally just decided to do haggis neeps and tatties! About to nip to Dobbies to see if they have any vegetarian haggis. The water chestnut sub sounds genius too. And I'm not a mayo fan, but have a tub of quark to use, so I'll try a coleslaw type dish with that.

kateandme · 12/11/2017 11:31

yay well done melanie.sounds delish.
have you tried yoghurt of sour cream Instead of mayo for coleslaw with a dash of vinegar or lemon juice.we done this before when the guest could eat egss.

HairsprayBabe · 13/11/2017 13:16

I am still on the hunt for a veggie haggis.

We had cheese fondue with crudite for dinner last night totally unplanned but we had everything we needed in so no harm in it!

Have 1 and a half large savoy cabbages atm, I cannot seem to get through them quick enough and then they send me another one!

Any suggestions! We had roasted cabbage wedges on Tuesday with a stir fry that was quite nice!

HairsprayBabe · 16/11/2017 10:20

Keep meaning to get to waitrose, mine is a bit out of the way, have looked in morrisons and sainsburys but to no avail the ones by me are a bit small I think.

Cabbage goes with haggis obvs!

hairspray have you tried braised cabbage.melt butter in a pan.add bacon 3-4 mins add cabbage and wine cook for bout 10 til tender cabbage then add some fennel seeds parsley and crème fraiche.so good!
also mixing it with cheese and mash.
stir fried cabbage is good
fish and cabbage risotteo weve had.
a ham hand cabbage hash
we also had a French dish called garbure I think it was
goes nicely in a stew based with potatos haricot beans ,carrots.,nice stock, chicken optional or ham.some nice herbed dumpling served alongside or as is.

HairsprayBabe · 17/11/2017 13:21

That sounds lovely (minus bacon for me anyway!)

Have done braised red cabbage before I love that with mash and veggie sausages yummy!

I think I just find it really filling so we are only eating 3 or 4 leaves a day because there is only the two of us so I need to find a way of eating more of it in one go!

HairsprayBabe · 20/11/2017 09:03

I made pumpkin gnocchi yesterday, had it with sage butter and toasted seeds and it was AMAZING!
Had to use some serious will power not to eat the portion I was keeping back for DP!

OP posts:
kateandme · 20/11/2017 15:05

hairspray oooh braised red cabbage is great.freezes really well too.
by the way hairspray I'm not keeping on pruposfully adding meet in replying to you haha.i just keep the meat in some recipe I say as that how we did them, obviuosly you take it out but recpies are still as nice so I just wrote as they were.(I didn't want you to think I was meat pushing on purpose :/)

would you say homemade gnocci is far above packet stuff because I had massive failure in making my own but when trying the packaged stuff it just let me down taste wise I just never bothered again.

HairsprayBabe · 23/11/2017 10:07

"meat pushing" Grin! No don't worry I didn't take it that way at all!

I have never tried the traditional way, as in spuds and flour etc but I have had fabulous success with chickpea flour and squash or pumpkin very quick to make and delicious.

I used this recipe peachypalate.com/2013/11/28/last-minute-pumpkin-gnocchi/ and just microwaved the pumpkin and mashed it to make the puree, probably should have squeezed some of the liquid out but not overly important

Veg Box Day! I was hoping that a turnip wouldn't turn up this time, as I still have half a one from last time! Thankfully it didnt, and I got:

Savoy cabbage
onions, potatoes, carrots, parsnip
leeks and herbs
sprouts!
mushrooms
beetroot

Menu Plan:
Roasted Maple Sprouts (Deliciously Ella)
Vegeree (Jamie's Superfood)
Vegetable Biriani (Hairy Bikers)
Cheesy leek pasta bake
Parsnip potato rosti w lemon spring onion yoghurt dip (recipe w box)
(and might do that some evening DH is eating meat, as it'll be a good side dish)
Winter veg crumble w oat and nut topping
Beet and apple slaw w stuffed portabellos

Need some ideas for the cabbage. I tried cabbage rolls previously and wasn't keen.

HairsprayBabe · 24/11/2017 09:49

www.marthastewart.com/315062/roasted-cabbage-wedges

MelanieCheeks · 24/11/2017 18:49

Great cabbage ideas, thank oo!

Tonight''s veggie Pad Thai was simply gorgeous - rice noodles with some turnip cubes as fake water chestnuts, with carrot shavings, mushrooms, kale, red onion, garlic, scallion and tofu I faked tamarind paste with lime juice and muscovado, and served with a crumble of cashews.

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/11/2017 15:35

You need to blanche cardoons first to remove the bitterness. I love them and wish they were more readily available!

HairsprayBabe · 27/11/2017 08:12

Weeds I tried that and still found them very bitter!

Busy week for me work wise so it will be speedy suppers all week
M: Tofu Stirfry
T: Veggie sausages, cabbage, carrots and leeks
W: Chickpea and kale curry
T: MIL's
F: Out for a girls night
S: Frittata
S: ???

Couldn't find veggie haggis. But now it's December and my November veg pledge is over. So tonight it's haggis neeps and tatties, in honour of yesterday's St. Andrew's day!

HairsprayBabe · 04/12/2017 08:28

Awh lovely!!
This time of year is so hectic, I have not done any proper planning in ages!
On Friday we got

Spinach
Sweet potatos
cabbage
fennel
courgettes
peppers
leeks
carrots

Will have a think and do a menu later

OP posts:
Joinourclub · 04/12/2017 15:00

Whenever I get fennel and peppers I make a sausage/pepper/fennel/tomatoey sauce to have with pasta.

HairsprayBabe · 05/12/2017 08:21

That sounds nice join!
We had a fennel and sausage thing last night.

Linda mccartney veggie sausages,
fennel and pumpkin mash
braised cabbages with leeks and chestnuts

Tonight I want to use up the spinach other wise it will be limp and sad by the end of the week, so I was thinking a spinach and courgette frittata

Weds I am off work so will probably do the BNS from last week hasselback style with either a spicey tuna salad or some roasted chickpeas and shredded chilli cabbage.

Thursday I am on a course, so will need to be reasonably quick, so a stir fry and maybe some linda mccartney pulled duck

Friday, home made soup and cheese scones as I have a big eating weekend ahead and I want to keep it on the lighter side!

OP posts:
HairsprayBabe · 12/12/2017 09:14

Carrots
Broccoli
Leeks
Cherry tomatoes
Salad leaves

M - Soup
