OP posts:
Buttwing · 26/03/2016 20:27

Scraps are bits of batter not my cup of tea but each to their own.

NorbertDentressangle · 26/03/2016 20:28

What in the name of Geoff is a Babby's Head? Confused

VinoTime · 26/03/2016 20:29

I'm in Scotland so it's proper fish and chips using haddock, otherwise known as a fish supper. None of this cod nonsense WinkGrin

SeriousSteve · 26/03/2016 20:31

Babby's Head?! I'm almost afraid to ask! Easter Grin

Mightywease · 26/03/2016 20:37

G1raffe scraps are bits of batter, gorgeous, crunchy, addictive, rather unhealthy batter! Grin

CheeseGerm · 26/03/2016 20:40

I need to visit Scotland and tour the chippies! Much more interesting than anywhere near me Envy

Buttwing · 26/03/2016 20:41

Ha Ha a babby's head is a steak and kidney pudding. I presume it's called this because it looks like baby's head but I'm not actually sure!!

hollinhurst84 · 26/03/2016 21:03

Full portion here if you get a barm, I just get mine separately or they open barm, load with chips in and around it then wrap it up

hollinhurst84 · 26/03/2016 21:04

My dad gets fish, chips, scraps pea wet Envy bleugh

TwoLittleBlooms · 26/03/2016 21:04

DancingQueen17 A butter pie is a potato and onion pie and as Buttwing said bloody gorgeous! They are mainly found in certain parts of Lancashire.

G1raffe Scraps are just batter bits - but they are called scraps here.

BloodyDogHairs · 26/03/2016 21:08

Deep fried pizza Grin and a battered deep fried one!

They taste better than they look.

Wow where I live a fish and chip shop sells fish and chips.
Battered pizza sounds rank.

cdtaylornats · 26/03/2016 21:29

Haggis or Black pudding supper.

If its a really good chip shop then Special Fish Supper - smoked haddock in breadcrumbs & chips

If I feel rich enough and have an hour to waste then its the Wee Hurry for Monkfish supper.

CheeseGerm · 26/03/2016 21:36

I want a deep fried pizza with a butter pie and orange chips. Never heard of these things until today and now I don't want anything else but them!

Ughnotagain · 26/03/2016 21:47

G1raffe you tend to get a full portion of chips with a chip butty. Big breadcake, opened out, chips shovelled in, lid balanced precariously on top.

You can't pick it up and eat it straight away or all your chips would fall on the floor. So you have to eat a few chips until it's manageable enough to pick up.

G1raffe · 26/03/2016 22:07

Thanks ug. I've got a mental image now! ( I did have to Google breadcake though....)

AgentCooper · 26/03/2016 22:10

That pic on the right Bloody, that's my durty bastard special right there! Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/03/2016 22:15

Where do you live Umbongo?
Making sure I never visit.

Katarzyna79 · 26/03/2016 22:16

does any place do proper british fish n chips not cooked in beer, or an animal fat? I miss my fish n chips. When I was younger my parents never knew we used to eat it every weekend. They thought potato halal, fish halal so we had it. Now I'm older wised up really limited.

The Asian halal places that serve up fish n chips well, lets just say from the dozesn ive tried they don't know how to make the batter crunchy, before you even get home its soggy and falling off. chips don't taste right either.

any recommendations in Edinburgh? There is the codfather over there but it's hit and miss. sometimes its great other times rubbish no quality control I just don't bother anymore really miss it.

on Nicolson street there is one really good busy fish and chip restaurant, they used to fry everything separate the man told us, but he did say some days they use the meat oil in the chips so can't guarantee. they were damn tasty and the place was so clean (weeps)

"rock and roe" sounds like a theme park ride lool

caker · 26/03/2016 22:16

I get chips and mushy peas. Next day make chipsi mayi from the leftovers :)

Katarzyna79 · 26/03/2016 22:17

I prefer haddock too, followed by cod, no time for Pollock I think it smells weird

Katarzyna79 · 26/03/2016 22:21

ive never had a fried mars bar since I'm moving back to Scotland maybe I should is it vomit worthy though?

dylsmimi · 26/03/2016 22:31

Chip cob or chips and battered sausage
Where I used to live I used to share a fish with dh and a sausage (not battered Angry ) and salt and pepper chips which were delicious!
I love scraps but only get them when visiting Yorkshire relatives

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 26/03/2016 22:32

Plaice and chips here. Dh and I usually share a portion as it's massive. He adds mushy peas blurgh.

I'm a bit Shock at deep fried pizza.

ElizabethG81 · 26/03/2016 22:36

hollinhurst, you've just reminded me of when I first learned about pea wet Smile
