Fish, chips and peas. - perfect classic

Wrights steak pie, chips, gravy - outs where I was born and raised...

Fried chicken, doner meat, chips, salad slathered in garlic mayo! - now I'm hungry (reaches for menu)

I don't have a clue what white pudding is, this thread is v interesting, had no idea how many things you can from chip shops that I've never heard of!

Oooh it depends.

Either small fish & chips, or a fish butty, or a chip butty (though the other day I had fish cake and chips).

Portion of peas. Bread and butter. Salt, no vinegar, bit of ketchup on the chips.

Though that said, I do love chips and curry sauce.

Someone told me that chip shops down south don't do chip butties (he was from Brighton). I was Shock

Nothing.

Am on weight watchers.

But I don't really like chip shop fish and chips - it's all too greasy for my delicate constitution. If I do ever get anything it's usually just chips with mushy peas.

DH and DS like a proper portion of cod and chips.

And who's had a battered Mars bar then? Grin

BIL used to be able to eat two in a row when we were teenagers until we stopped him for fear of a youthful heart attack...

Chips and mushy peas.

Being a veggie I find chip shops a bit limited when it comes to a veggie option.

The only options seem to be cheese and onion pasty (pastry is too heavy/stodgy to have with chips) , potato, cheese and onion cake (so that'll be potato with chips) or, in one place, battered mushrooms (which sounded great until I tried them - have you any idea how much oil a mushroom can absorb?!!).

I reckon there's a great opportunity out there for someone to come up with an alternative.

Norbert if you're ever in Sheffield there's New Cod on the Block, they have vegan options. I've never been but heard good things!

If I am lucky enough to be visiting my mum and dad on fish n chips night, they go to their local chippy, which has won numerous awards for being shamazing Grin then I have a chicken burger with chips.
If it's just my local chippy, I have a beef and onion pukka pie with chips to dip in the gravy Grin

I turn into a right dirty bastard when I go to the chippie.

My meal of choice is a pizza crunch supper - I don't know if you get this outside of Glasgow, but pizza crunch is a deep fried pizza. It is fucking beautiful.

When I handed in my dissertation at uni I went and got a roll and chips - lovely big Morton's well-fired roll with plenty butter, hot salty, vinegary chips. And cheese. Best lunch ever.

White pudding is black pudding with no pigs blood - so pork fat, oatmeal, suet, seasoning and a tiny amount of pork meat.

Both are sausage shaped.

Don't people just have cod & chips? Battered/fried pizza?? Battered chips? Southern softie here.

Norbert Nearly all the chip shops around here fry in dripping anyway, so I have learned to be grateful if I can eat the chips.

I miss lancashire and chips fried in sunflower oil and cheese and onion pukka pies.

I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread, hungry now. I also wish I lived near a chippy that deep-fried pizzas.

My local chip shop is crap. The chips are always kind of slimy. I can't tell whether they've been under done or over done, and I don't know how to communicate to the server that I'd prefer regular chip texture if it's all the same...

Chips, scraps, curry sauce (sometimes) and butter pie (sometimes). We have recently moved and the nearest chippie is rubbish - my favourite is too far now Easter Sad

I believe that rock is known as Huss in some areas. I love it. A full flavoured fish with a meaty texture and only one bone to worry about. My chippy cooks it to order. Wonderful with their amazing chips. Mmmmmmm.

Ughnotagain - I'll bare that in mind if I'm ever up north!

The only chippy I've been to in the North of England was about 20 years ago and, despite if being the biggest take away I've ever been in it's menu consisted of;

Cod and chips
Cod
Chips
Mushy peas
Gravy

...and that was it!

Deep fried pizza sounds all kinds of wrong!

A chip barm is food of the gods though. I don't know a single chippy round here that doesn't do them.

battered cods roe is manna from heaven. Where live borders of north london most of the fish and chips places are run by turkish cypriots, so you can get kebabs etc. But the others still have a choice of fish, saveloys, battered sausages, cods roe, pies, chicken, fish cakes, all stuff that i can remember from being a child in the 60s, so nothing much has changed round here.

Large chips, two small fish (or one fish and one pie), saveloy, battered sausage, mushy peas.

I miss having chips and scraps though. Our chippy doesn't do scraps :(

I can't quite conceive of deep.fried or battered pizza...
