... is gorgeous!! Seriously, the kids were all over it and I have just polished off the left overs dipped in last night's left over curry. Heaven.

Does anyone have the book and are there any other good recipes? Worth buying?

How about pork and apple sausages with a Cheerios crust?

lou33 · 16/03/2012 20:47

Well either way, she will burst a blood vessel if she tries to take on everyone who does not have an opinion that she agrees with. And tbh it does seem like an attempt at pushing the book, though i may well be just a cynical old hag of course.

Regardless of all that, I think the recipe sounds unappealing, most others seem to like it, I don't understand the reaction to the few of us who dislike it, seems a bit ott.

"And how anyone who includes recipes using mayo and rice krispies gets to be the 5th female food writer to...(insert blurb) is a source of considerable amazement to me.

Delia, Claudia Roden, Elizabeth David, Angela Hartnett, Sam from Moro, Madhur Jaffrey, Rose Grey and Ruth Rogers, and even Nigella Lawson, must be weeping into their onions"

Blu said that, Lou, and Torie was offended by it. I agree with Torie it is bitchy and not necessary.

lou33 · 16/03/2012 20:50

Cheerios, coco pops, rice krispies, they all sound horrible, it doesn't matter who the recipe is by.

(Waits for a Heston relative to come and tell me off...)

AnnoyingOrange · 16/03/2012 20:54

Using mayo instead of egg is not a new idea. Here's a recipes from at least 7 yrs ago allrecipes.com/recipe/amazing-chicken/

This has gone from mildly humorous to making me quite cross. Lisa wrote the book as a lovely collection of recipes from her mother to pass on to her own daughter. Whatever is contained in that book is personal to her and to her sister and this comes across as more than slightly disrespectful. if you don't like it that is grand, but it's the unnecessary bitchiness I have a problem with.

Like I said i guess it depends on how you interpret the tone, I read it as slightly tongue in cheek, but I wouldn't call it bitchy.

However, I do think that MN threads and the posts on them are much more reactive and sensitive to criticism now , then they used to be. It seems there is nothing that can be posted about without an argument developing, which is a shame, as I kind of miss the days where a topic could be debated and disagreed on, with healthy (and often hotly disputed) but robust differing pov's. The kind where there were differing opinions which were respected, and those opposing views made for good reading.

It just seems like everyone gets in a huff and accuses everyone of being bitchy now, as though it is all personal, and the real point of the thread is lost.

And that is a shame.

Mirrorball · 16/03/2012 21:12

I completely agree. I've been away for a while a not posted regularly and am surprised at the change in overall tone... Defensiveness and jumping to conclude something must be a plug.

available now from amazon!!!!

lou33 · 16/03/2012 21:32

The reaction to plugging doesn't surprise me, that has always been the same (at one point back when mn was still mostly rolling hills and green fields it used to get a lot of members signing up just to get free advertising for something or other, and they always got short shrift, so I think that has stuck).

What I do see a change to is the amount of threads that seem to degenerate into slanging matches almost from the off, the subject of the thread almost seems irrelevent, someone will find a reason to wade in with a load of abuse regardless.

I read more than i post now, because mn gets so argumentative for no obvious reason , it puts me off and depresses me. It's like trying to piss into the wind, it will all be blown back in your face eventually.

I do still stand by my pov though, whilst acknowledging it is in the minority. However I do think that even if Torie is LF's sister, she was over sensitive with her response to the posters who had a different opinion to the majority. Of course everyone gets defensive of family members if they feel they are being abused, but the comments were aimed at the food not an attack on her sister directly.

jklikesrowing · 16/03/2012 21:34

does anyone know any good breakfast foods ideas thats not cereal or toast?!!

lou33 · 16/03/2012 21:37

mirrorball, have you always posted under the same name or have you changed it?

i have been here so long , but rarely know who is who anymore as names keep changing, and i cannot keep up!

jklikesrowing · 16/03/2012 21:40

what about a burger? like a steak burger? not just ure average quater pounder?

lou33 · 16/03/2012 21:53

Burgers are a bit too heavy for breakfast dont you think?

jklikesrowing · 16/03/2012 22:01

not if they have great quality and taste?

luisgarcia · 17/03/2012 00:28

That wasn't bitchy, Blu, don't worry about it

luisgarcia · 17/03/2012 00:34

Oh wow, 5 pages of this. I'm so sorry, I should have noticed and backed away

Blu · 17/03/2012 00:37

Mwah, Luisa Grin

limassol · 08/04/2012 09:43

The mayo tenderises the chicken much like marinating in buttermilk prior to coating it

limassol · 08/04/2012 10:01

By the way, I tried them and wasn't too impressed, the dc's didn't like the either but they are the fussiest children I have ever known! This book is quite a nice book though, one that busy people might actually use. I like this one and Gwyneth Paltrow's book actually. They take a busy mum's perspective as opposed to a chef. Didn't mumsnet vote Fay Ripley's last cookbook as the best cookbook of the year? Now that really did have some revolting stuff in it and the new one is worse IMHO. It had some funny bits in it though.
