... is gorgeous!! Seriously, the kids were all over it and I have just polished off the left overs dipped in last night's left over curry. Heaven.

Does anyone have the book and are there any other good recipes? Worth buying?

I agree it did not sound nice.

But I tried it [unlike you] and found it very nice.

It is called experimenting.

But then your only five so you would not understand.

landofsoapandglory · 16/03/2012 20:04

Right, as there is a little backstory to all Lisa's recipes I have just got the book out to see what it is for this one.

She writes that the "recipe was my mum's in the days before chicken nuggets".

Now AFAIK she is a similiar age to me(41) and my mum did some weird things when she cooked in the 70s but they worked. For example, she always put a heaped tablespoon of Branston pickle in the mince when she made cottage pie and I still do that today.

Maybe you shouldn't criticise the book/recipes until you have looked at it or tried some of them!

jklikesrowing · 16/03/2012 20:05

no at five u have no tastebuds at all!!! wow u must be so proud you experimented and dipped chicken in mayo! god colonol saunders will be well worried!!

Crack open another White Diamond, jk. You sound stressed.

jklikesrowing · 16/03/2012 20:08

lol @ poultry not politics!!! finally a sense of humour!!

lou33 · 16/03/2012 20:10

I agree with Blu and Jk, it DOES sound horrible. If you post on mn you have to be prepared to read stuff you don't like or agree with, many people have opinions about subjects they have no experience of, we all have a pov.

Not sure if it really is the sister though, after all anyone could claim to be related to anyone. It could be her, but it could also be someone paid to publicise the book too.

I don't think Blu was rude either.

jklikesrowing · 16/03/2012 20:10

lambrini thankyou i dont like diamond white!!

Mirrorball · 16/03/2012 20:11

Losag, thank you, brilliant research, hurrah.

My mum did weird stuff too, squirt of ketchup in tuna mayo (sorry, 'm' word again!!!)...

Check the book out and then come back.

No taste buds at 5...... where did you read that.

DilysPrice · 16/03/2012 20:14

Stepping away from the toddler posters, this recipe sounds like Annabel Karmel's cornflake crusted chicken recipe which is absolutely delicious, but sticks the crust on with egg/milk rather than mayo, I am somewhat Hmm about the mayo.

As a die hard Spooks fan however, I can't resist asking whether you do it in a deep fat fryer? Grin

Mirrorball · 16/03/2012 20:14

Blu, jk and Lou, please try it over the weekend, if you can fit it in around your fois gras and balsamic reductions, and report back.

OP posts:
jklikesrowing · 16/03/2012 20:15

irony love irony or have you not heard of that word because you have been too busy experimenting? x

Mirrorball · 16/03/2012 20:16

This thread really is going snap, crackle and pop.

OP posts:
lou33 · 16/03/2012 20:18

What is wrong with saying we don't like the sound of something?

Not having foie gras and balsamic reductions over the weekend, i did that today.

landofsoapandglory · 16/03/2012 20:24

Nothing wrong with saying you don't like something Lou, but Blu and jk didn't just say that did they? They were both quite nasty.

FWIW Lisa's sister is called Victoria, according to the book, so there is every chance torieloo is who she says she is.

iamme43 · 16/03/2012 20:26

landofsoap.

Well said.

Mirrorball · 16/03/2012 20:27

I had very little insight into the divisive nature of 70s cooking... I intended to engage in some lighthearted banter about a surprisingly yummy way to prepare chicken given the ingredients... I will step away before further unassuming breakfast cereals or suffer unjust defamation.

OP posts:
jklikesrowing · 16/03/2012 20:28

well if her name is victoria and the posting name sounds like that, she must be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MargueritaaPracatan · 16/03/2012 20:35

Perhaps LF has hired the delightful jk as a reverse psychology marketing ploy.

It's a good one because I'll be buying the book tomorrow.

formerdiva · 16/03/2012 20:36

FFS - are we all falling out over a sodding recipe now? Why the aggro JK? I've just been on the wedding reception video thread where people felt the need to have a pop as well. If you're spoiling for a fight, why not stick to AIBU where at least it's expected.

lou33 · 16/03/2012 20:38

I didn't read their posts as rude, I guess it depends on the tone you assume it was said in, I have certainly heard much worse in the years of being on here.

I don't think I was rude either, but I do think some of the responses on this thread sound a tad defensive, considering this is a thread about liking a specific recipe, and not a personal criticism of anyone.

Torie may well be the real deal, but might not be, who knows. It doesn't matter really, but if she is who she says then she is going to have hard time if she takes offence with anyone who doesn't like her sister's recipes. There are bound to be more than just the three of us who do not like the food in some way or another, even if it is a popular book and we are in the minority. If Torie takes it all personally she is just going to be in a permanent state of stress and tension.

redlac · 16/03/2012 20:41

I don't think she took offence at people not liking the recipe it was more the assumption that she was on MN to publicise the book

Mirrorball · 16/03/2012 20:42

Has anyone tried those pork medallions with a coco pops crust? Heston classic.

Just sayin'.

OP posts:
Mirrorball · 16/03/2012 20:45

I started the thread and Victoria was nice enough to pop in and say hello and expand on the recipe. Then someone dissed her sister. 95 posts later...
