Any Christmas film recommendations?

Aside from the obvious big ones like Home Alone/Love Actually/The Holiday/The Grinch etc.

It's just for me so it doesn't have to be kid friendly, though I don't like really scary stuff and I'd like an overall upbeat vibe to it. Nothing too cheesy and 'Hallmark' though! I enjoyed 'Christmas Eve', the characters all stuck in New York elevators on Christmas Eve, and 'The Nativity Story', about Mary and Joseph as they head to Bethlehem with Herod kicking off in the background.

Can you think of any more I might enjoy please? Bonus points if it's free with Prime or on Youtube as I no longer have Netflix.

My Chrissie is never complete without watching one of the Scrooge movies. Reckon my favorite is the '51 version with Alistair Sim as the grouchy old Ebenezer. The '80 version with George C Scott is up there too.

I am a newbie. Please where do I find the edit and deleted functions.

ThisHeartyCritic · 14/12/2025 03:23

Scrub delete function I found that.

Click and Collect with Stephen Merchant is funny and feel good.

Yamyamabroad · 14/12/2025 21:01

Nativity. Added bonus of being English

HearMeSnore · 14/12/2025 21:52

I second Click and Collect. Very funny and feel-good. Reminds me of Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

I actually quite enjoyed Get Santa. It’s very silly and puerile but it had charm.

And my childhood nostalgia film - Small One. If you can find it. It’s very old and very short but it makes my heart soar.

I (rather to my surprise) really enjoyed ‘Red One’. I do recommend it.

Serendipity
The Family Man

It would be great if people would add what mediums they are watching these films on? I have a couple of suggestions but don’t know where to find them

Your Christmas or Mine

The Preachers Wife with Whitney Houston which is a remake of The Bishops Wife with Cary Grant. Both lovely.

I just had to read A Christmas Carol for a literature course I'm doing and I had real trouble not picturing the characters as frogs and pigs 😂

Funnily enough I’ve never read it, but you’ve inspired me to! On to Amazon I go….. thank you x

Just watched violent night which was very good (but gorey!)

Yes but gory in a Kill Bill way. It's funny too imo.

LemograssLollipop · 16/12/2025 00:45

I liked watching That Christmas with the kids.

Bayroot1 · 16/12/2025 01:08

Just watched 4 Christmases again. Mad but funny.

chellewillnotbebeaten · 16/12/2025 10:10

Just remembered another one I like……. ‘Click and Collect’ currently available on prime x

Contycont · 16/12/2025 10:13

Watched Dear Santa with Jack Black last night. It was good for something festive but different.

Red One is very good if you like action films.

ETA: Man Vs Baby is a 4 part series but basically film length if you watch in one go. Festive and feel good, like Mr bean but with more talking.

HearMeSnore · 16/12/2025 16:14

OMG! Small One is free to view on YouTube. I’m off to revisit my childhood. See you later…

It's a Wonderful Life is the best Christmas film of all time. It's not at all what I thought it would be and is so so moving.

I didn’t see this until about 5 years ago when u went down wirh a bout of flu. It is such a truly amazing film isn’t?

Edited to add that the film is currently on ItvX and is feee to stream.

As already referenced above, Flint Street Nativity and Lost Christmas.

My additions - the children’s tv film with Dervla Kirwan about a mum and two children living in a van which blows up so they move into the local department store.

And my favourite, ‘A child’s Christmases in Wales’ with Ruth Jones. Really nostalgic but never repeated, I think they had some copyright issues re the music or something ☹️.

I loved the Nativity
