Aside from the obvious big ones like Home Alone/Love Actually/The Holiday/The Grinch etc.

It's just for me so it doesn't have to be kid friendly, though I don't like really scary stuff and I'd like an overall upbeat vibe to it. Nothing too cheesy and 'Hallmark' though! I enjoyed 'Christmas Eve', the characters all stuck in New York elevators on Christmas Eve, and 'The Nativity Story', about Mary and Joseph as they head to Bethlehem with Herod kicking off in the background.

Can you think of any more I might enjoy please? Bonus points if it's free with Prime or on Youtube as I no longer have Netflix.

The Nativity is great

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 04/12/2025 19:42

I really enjoy Klaus

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 04/12/2025 19:43

Oh sorry! Mine is on Netflix and I just reread to see you don’t have that.

Usernameunavailableagain12 · 05/12/2025 23:24

Me and my kids loved Angela’s Christmas

NuffSaidSam · 05/12/2025 23:28

I LOVED Klaus too.

Arthur Christmas is also great.

Scrooged.

Bad Santa (not scary, but definitely not suitable for children).

The Snowman.

Miracle on 34th Street, but that's an obvious one.

Last Christmas. Not syrupy, quite poignant.

Sunshineandrainbow · 05/12/2025 23:30

Last Christmas on iPlayer.

Take a look at the other films on iPlayer too.

The Holdovers

XelaM · 05/12/2025 23:45

It's a Wonderful Life is the best Christmas film of all time. It's not at all what I thought it would be and is so so moving.

Jugendstiel · 05/12/2025 23:47

Agree with @quietmagic The Holdovers is a brilliant film.

Slight send up of Hallmark movies (and Die Hard) is Love Hard which I found funny and cute.

XelaM · 06/12/2025 00:01

Deck the Halls is also hilarious

parietal · 06/12/2025 00:02

The Holdovers. Not trad but a good movie.

Agree! It's got a reputation as being sentimental but it's not at all

XelaM · 06/12/2025 00:04

My daughter's favourite has always been Miracle on 34th Street

The Holdovers

Yes, this too.

I like Last Christmas and Christmas with the Kranks

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/12/2025 00:47

Lost Christmas - Eddie Izzard and Jason Flemmimg , one of my favourite films .

This Is Christmas - Alfred Enoch and Timothy Spall

Love Actually

Not a fan of Die Hard and cannot abide The Holiday

Life of Brian

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 06/12/2025 20:15

I love It's a Wonderful Life but that's in my 'I always watch these, they're classics!' pile and I'm looking for something new.

I'd forgotten Angela's Christmas but I saw it a few years ago and really enjoyed it! I'll see if I can find it. Thanks for the reminder!

I just watched the trailer of Last Christmas and it gives away the whole damn thing, so there's no point in watching it now. I hate when trailers do that!!

I'll keep going through the list! Thanks peeps!

Definitely Christmas with the Kranks, I still laugh out loud.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/12/2025 21:36

Just been to see Love Actually at the cinema , only ever seen it on TV before .
So much better on big screen , probably the surround sound and the dark , and the fact I had no distractions .

Hugh Grant dancing was worth the ticket price Xmas Grin

WhosMadeline · 06/12/2025 22:12

Christmas at mistletoe farm is my new fave.

MabelMoo23 · 07/12/2025 20:10

Arthur Christmas definitely and I absolutely love Noelle and Christmas Chronicles as well as the classics such as Miracle on 34th Street and Home Alone.

not watched Last Christmas so wouldn’t mind watching that.

our fave film tradition though is wrapping presents watching Die Hard with a tub of Heroes and a Baileys, it can’t be beaten

MabelMoo23 · 07/12/2025 20:11

Oh and Deck the Halls, also fab
