Aside from the obvious big ones like Home Alone/Love Actually/The Holiday/The Grinch etc.

It's just for me so it doesn't have to be kid friendly, though I don't like really scary stuff and I'd like an overall upbeat vibe to it. Nothing too cheesy and 'Hallmark' though! I enjoyed 'Christmas Eve', the characters all stuck in New York elevators on Christmas Eve, and 'The Nativity Story', about Mary and Joseph as they head to Bethlehem with Herod kicking off in the background.

Can you think of any more I might enjoy please? Bonus points if it's free with Prime or on Youtube as I no longer have Netflix.

I've just watched 'Spirited' and thought it was great (if you like Ryan Reynolds and slightly chaotic 'Scrooged' style films + musicals). Last Christmas is still worth a watch despite knowing the ending!

'Four Christmases' is quite good and 'Genie' fills some time!

And then obviously 'Muppet Christmas Carol' is the best Christmas film ever made ... fact! 😄

The Green Knight is good to look at and set at Christmas. It also has a wholesome moral about honesty.

Completely agree Muppet Xmas Carol - absolute epic of a film 🙌🏻❤️ I’m 39 and watch it every year, along with every other adaptation of the Christmas carol story, I love it 🤣

Eddie the Eagle. Feelgood and lots of snow!

MrsPositivity1 · 10/12/2025 16:41

Polar Express

berlinbaby2025 · 10/12/2025 20:13

The Ref - a very funny comedy from the mid-90s starring Kevin Spacey.

The Family Stone. More poignant than ever following the recent death of Diane Keaton.

I just had to read A Christmas Carol for a literature course I'm doing and I had real trouble not picturing the characters as frogs and pigs 😂

I'm afraid I can't recommend much outside of the classic picks, OP. Sorry.

But a big thank you to everyone else for these options. I find these useful myself. 😊

Daytimetellyqueen · 11/12/2025 13:00

I’ve recently watched Oh What Fun on Prime with Michelle Pfeiffer. It won’t be a classic but was good fun (solid 6/10).

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Silly but v funny. Chevy Chase is so good in it.

The Flint St Nativity. It’s my absolute favourite. A whole host of brilliant comedians playing the children and also their parents

Oh that's a blast from the past !
I remember watching Good Morning when they had some of the cast on to promote this.
I was on Maternity Leave either very very pregnant or with newborn baby son (baby son is now 26yo Xmas Grin)

ThatGreenFawn · 11/12/2025 18:36

Red one is really good.

GrannyTeapot · 11/12/2025 18:50

Muppet Christmas Carol and Santa Claus The Movie are must-watch-on-Christmas-Eve here. Nothing else compares to them.

Sturmundcalm · 11/12/2025 21:24

loved the holdovers.

also enjoyed oh what fun - nonsense but for a modern christmas film it's positively intellectual ;-)

My friend who will join me here, raves over Chevy Chase in
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
