Charlotte in Charlotte's Web - I still can't read that aloud without crying.

Nicodemus in Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.

The Iron Giant - when he says "Superman" that's absolutely it for me, I cry for about half an hour.

Mark Greene.

Ros, who wasn't even a character in the books of GoT but was so amazing in the series, and then she's discarded to the monster Joffrey. And of course The Red Wedding.

Killing off Nigel in The Archers was just wrongheaded.

Oh I’ve thought of two more;
The young woman police officer in Happy Valley. I’ll never be over that one, it was awful!!
Another Jilly Cooper one. Wolf, Jake Lovell’s dog in Riders. Hit by a bus and killed while poor Tory was so bereft already with Jake having left her for rancid Helen. I sobbed over that one and still cry at every re-read (of which there are many!)

Oh yes the officer in HV really shook me and not much does, they did it so well.

Ned stark in GOT

The Champ

Goose

Gareth in 4 Weddings

Frank Beck and his men in All The Kings Men (David Jason, late 90s, about an Army Company raised from the staff at Sandringham who were subsequently lost at Gallipoli)…especially the wee lad who was underage crying for his Mum.

Blackadder and his men at the end of Blackadder Goes Fourth.

upinaballoon · 18/11/2025 20:39

Oh, yes, the last bit of Blackadder, when it became serious for the first time in 4 series, and made us cry and still does.

Oy from The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Devastating stuff

Also Larry in the Stand - I’d have sacrificed Stu to save him.

Oh yes! The death of the gorgeous Toby Wren left a generation of teenage girls bereft.

not only bereft but FOREVER untrusting of TV shows to save the hero.... if they could kill Toby they could kill anyone!

Can't watch anything with sad animal demises in.

Was shocked the first time I watched Their Finest Hour. Went along as a lovely quite cheerful wartime film for nearly the whole film and suddenly BAM! death of someone I was not ready for and the whole ending is sad.

James Bond.

Yes, must mostly as I feel that the custodians of the franchise have no right to kill him off. The arrogance of feeling they can annoyed me!

Therewerelions · 23/11/2025 12:55

John Coffey in The Green Mile

Jamie and Blinky in The Undead series of books.
