Any guesses as to what/who will be nominated for an Oscar?

One of my favourite things to do is to see all the films then stay up
to watch the ceremony. Last year I never seemed to be out of the cinema. This year due to illness I couldn’t. I’m wracking my brain to think what film has had people talking about it. Have you seen anything that has been excellent?

I think Amy Madigan will be nominated for Best Supporting Actress as she was deliciously creepy in the horror film, Weapons.

tobee · 11/11/2025 21:14

Leonardo Di Caprio.

Haven't seen the film personally but it's what one article I saw everyone was saying a while back

FastTurtle · 11/11/2025 21:14

Frankenstein for costumes.

berlinbaby2025 · 11/11/2025 22:28

I think Hamnet will get the most nominations and most wins. I saw it a few weeks ago and wasn’t that impressed.

More positively, I saw Weapons last week and I’m rooting for Amy Madigan, who was brilliant in her role.

I’ve just watched Frankenstein and hated it. I’m glad I was at home

I hated Weapons.

And want all the awards divided judiciously between Sinners and One Battle.

DulciUke · 13/11/2025 18:18

Sean Penn for One Battle

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/11/2025 19:02

One Battle After Another is going to sweep the nominations

Awardandpeace · 13/11/2025 19:56

I loved Sinners and One Battle After Another, I think they will get loads of nominations, probably Wicked 2 will get some as well. Maybe Bugonia, I haven’t seen it but there is hype around it, Weapons which I haven’t seen either, F1 for visuals and cinematography, I have seen this and thought it was dreadful.

EachandEveryone · 13/11/2025 20:01

I do want to go and see one battle after another.

I enjoyed the 2nd half of Sinners! 1st half I had no idea what was going on. Dd assured me it didn't matter. Maybe im missing something but they could have done the 1st part in 15 mins!

Epli · 13/11/2025 21:32

Wicked will probably get nominations for Erivo & Grande, technical categories and bwst movie. Smaller movies like Sentimental Value and It was only an accident also likely tp get nods.

AstaEscapes · 13/11/2025 23:10

But then we wouldn’t have had time to see all the characters at their best, and to fall in love with them, before … @ConnieHeart.

AstaEscapes · 13/11/2025 23:15

Sinners has to get Cinematography.

One Battle will probably get a leading actor. And Film Score, of course.

Dunno what’s left for Bugonia - ‘Interestingly Contrasted Domestic Interiors’? Best Weird And Wormily Metallic Knitwear-Adjacent Costumes?

Nitgel · 15/11/2025 18:19

Sinners definitely. Jennifer lawrence best actres in die my love.

Hamnet doesn’t appeal to me at all.

I think One Battle After Another will get some awards like best actor.

i personally didn’t get it or like it that much but I think Sinners will get some awards and will feature in the best film category and despite it not being for me, I can see why it would be nominated.

squashyhat · 15/11/2025 18:23

I hope The Choral gets nominated for something. A beautiful little film.

AstaEscapes · 15/11/2025 18:26

Actually. I’d forgotten the thing in One Battle that means it probably does deserve Cinematography. Oh dear - I want everyone connected to Sinners to leave the Oscars ecstatic …

AstaEscapes · 15/11/2025 18:29

Does The Choral bear any resemblance to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, @squashyhat? I wouldn’t want to pay to see it in the cinema if so - would rather wait for it to be on TV.

Edited

Agree on the score, I hope Greenwood will get his Oscar (although I did like Sinners soundtrack as well and I am curious about Max Richter Hamnet's soundtrack).

SocksAndTheCity · 15/11/2025 23:22

Agreed Sinners has surely got to get cinematography; I think also Best Casting and Best Original Screenplay.

I would love to see it get Best Picture and Ryan Coogler get Best Director, but I suspect OBAA/Paul Thomas Anderson are nailed on for those this year as well as Best Adapted Screenplay (with the caveat that I haven't seen Hamnet or Frankenstein and probably won't). Michael B Jordan worked so hard playing two different people he deserves something too!

I'd hope Sinners picks up some of the music awards, but I don't really know any of the others - I'm going to a Wicked double bill on Thursday night so that'll catch me up a bit, but there aren't that many of the rest I've seen yet. I thought the OBAA score was outstanding but I'm pretty sure not many people are listening to it on Spotify (not that that has anything to do with it).

Definitely Amy Madigan for Best Supporting Actress and Sean Penn for Best Supporting Actor 😀

AstaEscapes · 15/11/2025 23:30

Ohhhh - I’ve just remembered Fiona Shaw in Hot Milk. The film was a bit insubstantial but she gave the sort of performance that does win prizes.

I saw this today and enjoyed it - although maybe some resemblance as described and I do think it would be fine on TV

Lostuser · 15/11/2025 23:38

Sinners was the best film I’d seen in long time, fantastic characters, custome and soundtrack

SocksAndTheCity · 15/11/2025 23:44

Sentimental Value is looking like a frontrunner for Best International and possibly Best Picture nominations; it didn't appeal to me so I didn't see it when it was on at LFF but it's supposedly very good.

No Other Choice from Park Chan Wook is a blast and I would so love to see it win. I'm not sure it's got distribution here yet but it's definitely worth looking out for Smile.
