DD is 13 and has just declared that she doesn't like movies with death or violence (she never has) and isn't interested in people falling in love with each other. So what else can we watch for family movie night?

All suggestions please

Ghostbusters Frozen Empire
Weird (the Al Yankovic story)
The Lost City (it has some silly death scenes and a nod to romance, but DD and I both found it hilarious)

SCHOOL OF ROCK
Fantastic Mr Fox
Grand Budapest Hotel
Mama Mia?
Pitch Perfects (various)
Where The Wild Things Are

School of Rock
Inside Out
IF
Jumanji
Mary Poppins

ObscureGrape · 19/09/2024 23:03

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Red Notice, Billy Elliott, Whale Rider, Finding Nemo, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Next Goal Wins, Hail Caesar, Babe, Into the Wild, Amelie, A League of their Own, The Breakfast Club, School of Rock, Paddington 1 and 2, Apollo 13, the Jumanji reboot?

FS is 12 and adores schlocky Christmas films like The Christmas Chronicles or Best Christmas Ever all year round.

Yes day

Airplane/Naked Gun
Top Secret
Ghostbusters (the women one in particular)
Murder by Death
Paddington

Dinosaurus86 · 19/09/2024 23:07

The Help?

I believe one of the leads was also in Hidden Figures. There is some violence/threat though.

DangerPigeon · 19/09/2024 23:09

Some with very mild references... it's a hard category!

The Bank of Dave
The Ice Age films (comedy violence)
Jungle Book (tiger violence, if that counts)
Eurovision The Story of Fire Saga
The Kings Speech (monarch death)
Paddington (taxidermy references)

Lincoln24 · 19/09/2024 23:13

Wild
20th Century Women
Run Lola Run
Fried Green Tomatoes
Clueless maybe? The romance only comes late on

Arconialiving · 19/09/2024 23:17

Best exotic marigold hotel
Karate Kid (romance is secondary)
Back to the Future movies

DangerPigeon · 19/09/2024 23:19

Totally scrub Pride and Prejudice, don't know why I thought of that... possibly just the general lack of violence

DangerPigeon · 19/09/2024 23:20

In face most of mine are fairly tenuous now

EngineEngineNumber9 · 19/09/2024 23:24

Has anyone mentioned Now and Then? It’s such a brilliant coming of age film for girls! I adored it at that age. It’s on Prime.

ConiferBat · 19/09/2024 23:25

Goonies
Karate kid

I know she's probably a bit old but I'm 46 & have recently thoroughly enjoyed these on Disney+
Moana
Encanto

Rainbowqueeen · 19/09/2024 23:25

Hairspray - there is a bit of romance but it's not really the main focus

Any biopic about an historic figure. Shes made it hard for you that's for sure.

Ioverslept · 19/09/2024 23:34

Swallows and Amazons, The Secret Garden, The Railway Children, Paddington, Mrs Doubtfire, Dr Dolittle (? Haven’t seen it, so just a guess), Peter Rabbit 2, Neverending Story

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/09/2024 23:36

Yesterday
Brother Where Art Thou
Anchorman

Around the world in 80 days

MrTwatchester · 19/09/2024 23:38

On Netflix, Moxie! and You Are So Not Invited to my Bat Mitzvah are quite good.

A lot of Tina Fey, Amy Poehler or Adam Sandler films would work actually.

Bridesmaids
Sisters
Mean Girls

Sports films?

Hustle
Bring It On
A League of Their Own
King Richard
Jerry Maguire
Karate Kid
Moneyball
Battle of the Sexes
Dodgeball

JanglingJack · 19/09/2024 23:45

Airplane 🤣 No, definitely not.

My DD is 16 now, trying to think what we would have watched...

No love, no death = Marvel or similar to me.

I Tonya is very good, maybe a bit 'old'.

Room? Too grim.

Goosebumps!

JanglingJack · 19/09/2024 23:46
