Recommend a movie with no love and no death

DD is 13 and has just declared that she doesn't like movies with death or violence (she never has) and isn't interested in people falling in love with each other. So what else can we watch for family movie night?

All suggestions please

Swallows and Amazons, The Secret Garden, The Railway Children, Paddington, Mrs Doubtfire, Dr Dolittle (? Haven’t seen it, so just a guess), Peter Rabbit 2, Neverending Story

Never ending Story has animal death and is actually v emotionally hard hitting.

I was just coming to suggest Howl or Totoro.

I adore Stardust, but there is a Romance.

Princess Bride
miss pettigrew lives for a day (romance only at the end) might be too old for her tho.

monty Python? Holy grail is fun

MouseofCommons · 20/09/2024 19:00

Ferris Bueller?
Monsters Inc.

I like Chef, Green Book, The Iron Giant (2005, spoiler - there is the implication of the death of a major character, but it’s all ok in the end), Come From Away musical on Apple (apart from the obvious), This Is Spinal Tap, School Of Rock, The King’s Speech, Matilda the Musical, Mean Girls (a bit of romance, but not the major theme of the plot, and quite a heavy “don’t change for a man” subtext).
It’s quite tough! So many movies have a bit of one or the other in!

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 20/09/2024 19:12

Ooh! Is there any death or romance in Harvey?

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 20/09/2024 19:13

Mrs Harris goes to Paris (Netflix). There is a reference to her husband dying in the war but that's about it.

Inside Out, Zootropolis (Disney)

FleaDog · 20/09/2024 19:17

Ladies in black is a really nice coming of age story set in a 50s department store

TeamPolin · 20/09/2024 19:23

Rocketman
Pleasantville
The Imitation Game

The House with a Clock in its Walls

Goosebumps

Both scary but I don't remember anyone dying!

BettyBardMacDonald · 20/09/2024 19:57

Heart Like a Wheel about racecar driver Shirley Muldowney

Hocus Pocus

National Velvet

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 20/09/2024 20:06

Galaxy Quest
Men in Black
School of Rock
Bill and Ted
The Spiderwick Chronicles

@Gabbysdollhouse I thought that Princess Bride (which is an amazing film) is almost entirely about true love.

Artesia · 20/09/2024 20:09

Operation Mincemeat

The Eagle Huntress is perfect for that age - it's about a 13 year old Mongolian girl who wants to be the first girl to compete as an eagle hunter. The eagles are trained not killed (!) and there's lots of horses too. (It's presented as a documentary though I'm not sure it's actually true)

Sadik · 20/09/2024 20:16

Lunana: a Yak in the Classroom is also pretty fun (& features yaks...)

Excellent choice. We've seen it. And the yak one.

Disney / Pixar:

Inside out
Inside Out 2

Seeing Red (??) The one about the red panda?

parietal · 20/09/2024 20:36

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I got 31 new ideas to send her so far.

She has also updated the criteria - offscreen deaths of a secondary character are ok but definitely no violent deaths.
