For anyone alive back then, Star Wars literally IS the only answer.

It was the beginning of modern special effects wasn't it? Nothing has had that impact, before or since. It blew my mind, especially at the age I was then.

I really loved The Post.

Derrymum123 · 13/04/2024 17:40

Angela's Ashes had a profound affect on me. I cried at many points in the film. The book also has me in tears.

1970's - Bugsy Malone
1980's - Bladerunner
1990's - Jurassic Park
2000's - The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
2010's - Suicide Squad
2020's - The Creator

Titanic especially the scene in the engine room when the Captain had ordered 'full steam ahead'
Jurassic Park, the T Rex chasing the jeep, and the accompanying music gathering momemtum.

yummytummy · 13/04/2024 18:06

Terminator 2. For that time the special effects were absolutely mindblowing!

GreenSmithing · 13/04/2024 18:16

I saw ET when it first came out. I was 4 or 5 and still at the age when I thought the bike taking off might have been real.

As an adult- the Matrix, because it was the first time I'd seen anything like bullet time and the slow motion fight scenes that are old hat now. Also Keanu was supercool in his leather coat.

And Collateral. LA looked gorgeous in that movie. I wouldn't have thought beforehand that 2 hours of Jamie Foxx driving at night would have held my attention but I loved it. It isn't the same on a small screen

Some great movies here. You just can't bear a good cinema experience.

Mine would be World War Z. The sounds, the speed, the zombies. Just mesmerising.

Notsonifty50 · 13/04/2024 18:22

ET and Forrest Gump are the two that stand out.

Jurassic Park. Absolute magic in the cinema when we see the dinosaurs for the first time.

Absolutely! It was so good I went back a few more times to see it.

CandleWick4 · 13/04/2024 18:25

I was 12 when Titanic came out and it was the first time I went to the cinema with friends without a parent. We have a local community cinema and everyone from school was there. We sobbed like babies and went back to see it 4 more times.

As an adult - Avatar. The first one and the first time we saw a film in the new 3D. It was incredible.

For the atmosphere annd sheer excitement - Avengers Endgame.

Ghostbusters, the original one in 1980something.

Same here. It was brilliant - at the end the whole cinema was up dancing and singing "Ghostbusters". People seemed a lot happier in the 80s.

goingback · 13/04/2024 18:27

Aliens

Wolfpa · 13/04/2024 18:28

Dunkirk, my heart was thumping all the way through the sound track at a cinema is phenomenal.

Gorgonemilezola · 13/04/2024 18:29

Star Wars - as soon as 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away', starts to roll. Still gives me shivers now.

Babette's Feast. Virtually no dialogue but visually stunning.

deebyhi · 13/04/2024 18:29

We loved "remember me" at the cinema. I won't spoil it but there's a twist at the end and the whole cinema gasped and there were tears. That moment will sit with me forever. The camera zooming out on these scene and the horror of what was about to happen. The music. The monologue playing... ah my heart.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

That’s mine too. Remarkable wasn’t it.

TunaCrunchy · 13/04/2024 18:35

I think it’s got to be Pulp Fiction for me.

Strokethefurrywall · 13/04/2024 18:48

All of the LOTR trilogy, but out of those, seeing The Two Towers was so exceptional I went twice.

I've never been "on the edge of my seat" ever until (or since!) that movie. The scene when Saruman's army arrive and start stamping their weapons in the pouring rain. It was incredible...

Oldandcobwebby · 13/04/2024 18:57

Schindler's List
Jurassic Park

SlowlyLurking · 13/04/2024 18:57

Interstellar or Frozen 2

Shetlands · 13/04/2024 19:24

Easy Rider - I was 15 and bunked off school to see it. Incredible film and really worth seeing on a big screen.
