The Lord of the Rings, especially The Fellowship of the Ring. Blew me away at 14 years old

BloodyAdultDC · 13/04/2024 19:41

ET was breathtaking
The one with Tom hanks where pirates take over his ship - I barely breathed for the last half hour
The most recent Bond film - wow.
Frozen with my dd - magical

Seven, I watched it in New York and coming out after was pretty gritty.
Grease as a 13 year old with all my school friends.
Trainspotting went along with loads of mates from uni to a late showing.

I cried so much at ET I had to be taken out of the cinema !

NetZeroZealot · 13/04/2024 20:20

Pulp Fiction.

I watched it the night it was released in Chicago.

MariaVT65 · 13/04/2024 20:22

Another one for me is Inglorious Basterds. Saw it while I lived in France.

Another vote for ET and Jurassic Park.

Toy Story was incredible animation for 1994.

I saw Jaws on the big screen a few years ago. Wonderfully atmospheric and creepy. It's the 50th anniversary next year so hopefully I'll go again.

Finding Nemo. Wonderful on the big screen.

BeyondMyWits · 13/04/2024 21:04

Gladiator. Was such a big film picture and sound wise. Was like turning back to the days of the epic... Ben Hur, Spartacus etc.

Iloveyoubut · 13/04/2024 21:05

E.T. Was amazing!

PitterPatter3 · 13/04/2024 21:07

Home Alone II

TammyJones · 13/04/2024 21:19

Just seen Dune 2.
It was gripping.
Everyone was mesmerised- you could have heard a pin drop (in the quiet bits)
Terminator 2 had me on the edge of my seat too.
Avatar 2
The lion king.
Aladdin.
As I child, Cinderella and sleeping beauty both blew me away.

So many.

Ghostbusters, the original one in 1980something.

I don't know if it was the best but it was memorable for me. Saw it with a school friend in a big old cinema and the audience all joined in with 'Ghostbusters!'

Another one is The Simpsons, purely because of the amount of laughter from the packed audience.

E.T. I’ve seen it three times at the cinema - on original release when I was seven, when it was re-released for the 20th anniversary in 2002, and last year when it was showing a few times at my local IMAX. It’s truly a film that deserves to be seen on the big screen and it’s possibly Spielberg’s masterpiece.

Jurassic Park (with my parents, on holiday in Cornwall), and also The Lord of the Rings.

The films I wish I'd seen on the cinema are Lawrence of Arabia and Withnail and I – my all-time favourites.

paranoidnamechanger · 14/04/2024 16:15

I used to live in London and was a regular at the BFI Southbank where I had many wonderful times seeing some of my favourite films on the big screen having only seen them previously on my TV:

Lawrence of Arabia
Tootsie
Gregory's Girl
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
West Side Story
Psycho
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Titanic , Romeo + Juliet both best in cinema.

As a teen, event films like Pretty In Pink, Breakfast Club, Ferris.

I went to see Rattle and Hum in the cinema and that was fantastic.

Mothership4two · 15/04/2024 07:32

Not my best movie (although we enjoyed it at the time), but Stepping Out is the only film I have ever been to where the audience clapped at the end.

RenoDakota · 15/04/2024 16:51

Arachnophobia. Came out all wrung out and exhilarated.

converseandjeans · 15/04/2024 17:12

Schindler's List in Germany

SecondHandFurniture · 15/04/2024 20:43

As a kid - Jurassic Park

As a teenager - LOTR The Two Towers

As an adult - Cloverfield

Lesina · 15/04/2024 20:44

Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistlestop Cafe… just a brilliant little film..

Ilovemyshed · 15/04/2024 20:52

Gladiator.. the music was incredible and it was a film of many tissues.

Warhorse.

Top Gun Maverick as they got the storyline just right on the nod back to the classic.

The last Bond, for the same reason, the nod back to OHMSS

Les Mis, which got a standing ovation.

Overtheatlantic · 15/04/2024 20:53

Batman back in the day. We tossed a beach ball around the cinema. Happy crowed.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 15/04/2024 21:01

Footloose, I saw it loads in my first years of secondary school as the teachers were on strike & we finished school at midday, loads of us would get the train & either share a burger or 10 red band fags
