I don't think Heath Ledger was a good Joker.
I don't think he fitted it very well.
He over acted in every scene.

And he only one the Oscar because he died

Lost in Translation was shit

Good god yes, I'm still waiting for it to start!

It irks me that an American actress was chosen for the role in the first place. Bit like Gwyneth in Emma 🙄

I walked past RW regularly without noticing or recognising her when she was working undercover at Random House.

I agree here’s something a little ‘stagy’ about the accent, and her pronunciation of ‘Mark D’Arcy’ is rather more plummy than the rest of her speech… (But I’ve never read the novels so don’t have much sense of what version of MC Bridget is supposed to be…)

IncompleteSenten · 20/02/2024 09:16

Marilyn Monroe was a terrible actor.

LadyEloise1 · 20/02/2024 09:17

The Banshees of Inisherin was cr*p.
Caveat though - Barry Keoghan was excellent in it. Superb depiction of someone who would have been described by my Irish grandmother as "having a bit of a want in him" or being a bit simple.

Fannyfiggs · 20/02/2024 09:24

I'd rather lick a tramp's pish off of the pavement than watch any musical or romcom. They are insulting to adults with half a brain.

(Apart from Gypsy with Natalie Woods. What a movie)

Just my opinion and no offence meant to the many people who likes them ☺️

Fannyfiggs · 20/02/2024 09:28

I LOVED Bridget Jones back in the day but I watch it now and cringe so bloody hard.

LadyEloise1 · 20/02/2024 09:57

Tom Hanks was miscast in Bonfire of the Vanities and I'm a fan of Tom Hanks.

I loved it but mostly because the landscapes it depicted were identical to the places I grew up in as a child in Ireland. Made me realise just how lucky I was to have that.

Good point about Avatar - the first one was so bad! I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than watch the second one Grin

Same! I was so bored in the cinema. I was shocked to learn it had a huge fan base.

Epli · 20/02/2024 10:40

Mine:
'Gladiator' is really bad. And don't get me started about the soundtrack!

I thought Oppenheimer was drivel

LeavesOnTrees · 20/02/2024 12:47

Nicole Kidman whispered her way through The Others which was quite annoying.

Couldn't get past the 1st half hour of The Power of the Dog before getting bored.

I don't gett the love for Hereditary,I love Toni Collette but that film was abysmal

There are so many of these I agree with.
The Piano was just shit.
LoTR movies are definitely better than the first books
Hereditary made me lose faith in critic reviews
Tenet was blockbuster entertainment nothing more, nothing less
Barbie left me feeling depressed
Call Me by Your Name I enjoyed but it was creepy at the same time
A Clockwork Orange shouldn’t have even been made same with the Lolita film

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/02/2024 15:05

Dh and I always refer to ‘Hereditary’ as ‘Her head hit a tree’. I think we picked it up from the Mayo & Kermode podcast.

Mothership4two · 20/02/2024 20:16

I enjoyed The Banshees of Inisherin but we did come out of the cinema scratching our heads saying "what did we just watch?". I think the amazing acting had a lot to do with its popularity. The deliberate finger chopping was ridiculous.

Colin Farrell seems to be attracted to 'out there' film subjects, People rave about The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer which we found odd and a bit sh*t.

Ikeameatballs · 20/02/2024 20:26

I slept through most of Oppenheimer, despite the beautiful Cillian Murphy, or perhaps because he’d lost his shine due to the emaciation required to play Oppenheimer and thus the only redeeming feature of the film was also lost?

I think a lot of recent films are hyped up social contagions of greatness but actually are crap and won’t age well.

MassageForLife · 21/02/2024 11:29

Grease is awful. Dreadful message to send - you can get your man if you change how you dress and behave. I've seen people say 'he changes his he dressed too'. No. He put on a cardigan, that he took off first charge he got.

I love lost in translation - but I completely understand why so many don't. It's slow, it's character driven rather than action or plot based. It was never going to be a massive box office hit. I think I love it because it reminds me of a friendship I once had.

LieutenantJumboJr · 21/02/2024 13:33

90% of Wes Anderson films are utter muck

rooftopbird · 21/02/2024 18:08

Barbie was so hyped and there were so many clips pre-released that I had to turn it off after half an hour. It was an insult to my intelligence.

Saying that I liked Shawshank because Tim Robbins.

I enjoy the old Carry On films......... (I know)

You're not alone. Me and my woke mates really love them!

Call me by your Name is creepy as hell! It is a very enjoyable watch yet sometime after seeing it you realise what you have actually been manipulated into condoning. I really didn't appreciate that.

Barbie was awful with some redeeming qualities - namely the wonderful set and costumes and a very bonkers but wonderful musical number with Ryan Gosling

FatArse123 · 21/02/2024 18:41

Anthony Hopkins is hammy

I hate all Tarantino. I think he's a creep who thinks he's cleverer than everyone else. . Especially after he nearly killed Uma Thurman.

I can't watch most Tarantino films. I keep thinking that I need to catch up and then I start watching and I just have to switch off. His last one was awful. The best thing in it was Margo Robbie. But it had a really comic scene where Brad Pitt totally destroyed Bruce Lee in a fight. That made me laugh and laugh and says everything about Tarantino as a fantasist.
