I don't think Heath Ledger was a good Joker.
I don't think he fitted it very well.
He over acted in every scene.

And he only one the Oscar because he died

The Godfather is supremely dull.

Avatar was rubbish.

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher was bad (this may not be unpopular actually.)

Also, film related but not about an actual film, if you are late to the cinema you should not be allowed in and you especially should not be using your annoying phone light to try and find your seat.

So do I.

And me! They’d be my Mastermind specialist subject.

Cinema is much better than the theatre

Emma Watson is a terrible actor

Harry Potter films need a good edit, far too long and dull.

Films should all be 90 mins or less and anything longer should not be shown

Agree with all of these! Especially film lengths. I might go to two hours at an absolute push for something that really interests me. So many films these days are around three hours and I'm sorry but nothing is holding my attention for that long!

LeavesOnTrees · 19/02/2024 19:12

Yes Avatar was rubbish. Boring plot.

American Beauty, at the time wondered what the fuss was about. It's just a middle aged man perving over over his teenage daughter's friend - urghh.

Any film, including American Beauty, where the wife and/or girlfriend is portrayed as a nagging, dull, party pooper.

TigerRag · 19/02/2024 19:15

Barbie was awful

Jane Campion's The Piano is a big bag of shite.

Yes!

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/02/2024 19:21

Marlon Brando was vastly overrated and self indulgent, and he is absolutely shite in The Godfather.

Riverlee · 19/02/2024 19:22

ET isn’t a believable character. Never managed to watch this film all the way through.

What?!?!?!?! He was bloody brilliant!!!!

Witchbitch20 · 19/02/2024 19:31

The Great Escape was incorrectly titled.

ET turns my stomach; that creature looks like he stunk of rotting flesh.

Big, I can not get passed a grown woman slept with a very young boy.

All films about men shooting, robbing, defrauding, dethroning, or threatening to shoot, rob, defraud, dethrone etc other men while women get occasional walk-on parts as girlfriends, mothers, therapists, affair partners etc are dull as ditchwater. And that includes The Godfather. Go ahead, kill all the other guys, just don’t expect me to care. See also films about men on the side of the law pursuing other men who are robbing, shooting etc.

Crime films are boring.

Al Pacino and Robert de Niro are interchangeable and deeply tiresome.

If there’s a superhero costume involved in a film, I’m already bored. I don’t care if it’s modern myth and key to the Zeitgeist.

This exactly. Detest all the standard movie tropes.

There is zero chemistry between the leads in Dirty Dancing and I didn't believe in/care about their relatiohship. I thought the famous "nobody puts Baby in a corner" sounded odd and made me cringe - apparently Patrick Swaze didn't like it at the time and only said it once.

Avatar has a clunky and boring plot.

I really liked Shawshank and Blade Runner (says quietly)

I've tried to watch Avatar, mainly because DH really liked it. I fell asleep every time. It's just so fucking dull.

IamaRevenant · 19/02/2024 20:04

Juno was not the uplifting, feel good film about Juno's 'bravery and selflessness' it was presented as. And the suggestion that Juno would have gone straight back to being a normal, happy, carefree teenager after handing over her newborn to the drippy and newly dumped Jennifer Garner is ludicrous. Also very little focus on the actual impact of the pregnancy on her after being guilt tripped out of the abortion she should (IMO) have just gone through with. There was so much wrong with that film.

MermaidEyes · 19/02/2024 20:09

Cinema is much better than the theatre

Watching a film from the comfort of your sofa is much better than the cinema, especially when people only seem to go to the cinema these days to talk and cough, play with their phones and eat rank smelling noisy food, and you've just paid the price of a small mortgage for a family of 4.

And yes to a pp, all films should be 90 minutes maximum. Unless they have Keanu Reeves in them. He's allowed a 3 hour limit.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 19/02/2024 20:17

Lego Loki does a better job then Tom Hiddleston.

Watercolourpapier · 19/02/2024 20:22

Alan rickman was the most overrated actor ever.

He played himself (unconvincingly) in every film.

He was so miscast as Snape in Harry potter. I know jk wrote the part for him but seriously he was overacting like a bloody pantomime dame.

I just don't understand why he's so universally revered as a great actor.

beguilingeyes · 19/02/2024 21:00

I heard that Snape was supposed to be Tim Roth, who was much more age appropriate, but he turned it down for Planet Of The Apes.

HouseFullOfChaos · 19/02/2024 21:00

Renne zelweger (I know that's probably not how her name is spelt) had an awful fake British accent in Bridget Jones. I can't stand watching it because of the fake accent. It's not even a funny fake accent like dick van dyke, you could tell she was really trying and thought she'd nailed it when she really hadn't.

Paninaro94 · 19/02/2024 21:09

Barbie was actually quite dull. Feminism for morons.

You know it's a true story and they're real people? Not fictional characters created to draw you in but boring regular people like you.

Yes, which is why it should be more moving.
I love biographies. I also enjoy 'dramatised versions of true events'.

They were far from regular people like me. I have been to the museum in Krakow. I have spent time in the Jewish Quarter. I was moved greatly by the horrific stories recounted there. I was in awe of the stories of immense bravery amidst the horror. If a film maker wants to tell a true story, a good film maker will draw you in, and help you get to know the people the film is about.

Grease 2 is better than Grease.

He is mesmerising in On The Waterfront.

All Stanley Kubrick films are unwatchable, especially 2001 A Space Odyssey.

It irks me that an American actress was chosen for the role in the first place. Bit like Gwyneth in Emma 🙄
